Player(s): 1 Platforms: PC (via Steam) Let's start off by saying that I completely fell in love with this games charm. Paca Plus is a visual novel by PacoProject and published by Sekai Project. Visual novels aren't really the type of thing im in to but this game managed to change my mind a bit of just how charming they can be. Plus it has an adorable alpaca that I will remember forever! A bit of a WARNING, I will go into SPOILER territory so you have been warned! We start off with the main character, Kazuma, listening to a melody that his girlfriend, named Yukari, plays on her violin. They soon meet up and make plans to visit a place called "Alpaca Kingdom" for Yukari's birthday. On the ride back Kazuma takes a nap and is awoken by Yukari who has suddenly and mysteriously turned into an alpaca. From here on out Kazuma tries his best to cope and try to understand what has happened to his girlfriend. It is from this point that depending on your few actions it impacts the flow of the story that leads into the four endings. Depending on your choices you find out that the females in Yukari's family are cursed to look like alpacas to the person they love. The first ending I got and arguably the best ending is that Kazuma accepts his love for Yukari no matter what and the curse is broken. They end up getting married and the alpaca ordeal fades into a distant funny memory. The little gameplay that there is, is limited to a few choices in the story. Other than that there really isn't much since it’s a straight visual novel. The story is pretty solid and there were plenty of moments that I laughed way more than I should. I definitely was on the edge of my seat for a few moments where I didn’t know how things would resolve. There were other moments where I was clearly impacted and overcome with emotion. I truly felt connected to the story and I kept wanting to keep going so I could learn more and more. I do wish that some of the assets were more detailed and I also wish that there was more variety. There are only about a few different settings and it’s a shame that character sprites for the most part don’t change to show more emotion or expressions. Also from what I have seen and read it looks like the translation from Japanese to English has been greatly improved. There are a few spelling errors and overall easy to overlook and read. The music as well became a little repetitive but they fit quite well overall. Yukari's melody was a joy to listen to and it has an odd calming effect. Overall I truly enjoyed this game even though I don’t really play visual novels. I would encourage anyone who wants to experience a charming story with good laughs to pick this title up. For the price of $9.99 you can't really go wrong. In the end I came away satisfied and my love for alpacas has grown even more! Now to look up what I need in order to buy and care for an alpaca! -Nestor GRAPHICS: GOOD SOUND: GREAT GAMEPLAY: QUESTIONABLE VALUE: GOOD OVERALL: GOOD FULL DISCLOSURE: This game was provided to A-to-J Connections free-of-charge by the publisher for the purpose of review |
