Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox, PC Raccoo Venture is a 3D platformer impressively made by a single person that is a major throwback to the games we used to get a lot of on the PS1 and N64. In many ways, it benefits and suffers from that mentality, leading to quite the rough road it treads. By Al Players: 1
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, Steam Time Master is a puzzle platformer that originally released on Steam last year, but recently saw a console release on the Nintendo Switch. This game's take on the genre involves time manipulation and a rewind mechanic that seeks to change up the sometimes stale gameplay within the genre. Do these elements work to create something fun and engaging? How does it stack up against other similar games? Well, you won't find no time paradoxes in this review! We're going to dive into this one and see if it's worth your time, or if it should be banished along with our main character's sister. By Al Players: 1-2
Platforms: Nintendo Switch Cyber Citizen Shockman 2: A New Menace, is a new release of a TurboGrafx-16/PC-Engine game that originally released in Japan in 1991, and 1992 in the US as simply Shockman. This over 30 year old action platformer was originally developed by Winds, and this new version is a Nintendo Switch exclusive that comes to us by way of publisher Shinyuden. Seeing as the TurboGrafx-16 wasn't exactly the most played console in the US, this is probably a title that few gamers are familiar with. Is this a gaming hidden gem? Or is it a game that is better left to the mists of time? Well, we're going to take a look at it and answer those questions! By Manuel Players: 1
Platforms: Game Boy Color (ROM) The story on how I ended up reviewing Space Invasion 2022 is a rather interesting one as I originally thought that this was going to be a retro-inspired release for the Nintendo Switch, but I was surprised to learn that it was actually a Game Boy Color ROM. I'm no stranger to ROMs though, and I was still interested in the game, so I decided to check it out anyway. As the name implies, this is a Space Invaders-inspired game that came out in 2022, and you can pick up on itch.io for $1.99. We're going to take a look at this neat little shooter and see if that's a fair asking price for a modern GBC release. By Al Players: 1
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, Steam Retro Revengers is a retro-inspired action platformer that released on Steam and the Nintendo Switch earlier this year. It takes a more comedic approach to the genre and sees five distinct characters who are tasked to save the very video game they were originally attempting to play. Nice and meta right? Well, we'll get more into the hows and whys of their journey in a bit, but we're here to let you know if this quirky little indie title is one that you're going to want to add to your end of year play roster, or if you're better off skipping it altogether. Let's get ourselves isekai'd into the review to find out! By JT Players: 1
Platforms: PC Noctuary is developed and self-published by indie studio Gratesca, who currently don't have many games under their belt. There's no pulling punches with this one as the game is straightforward. Go through the novel portion, fight, choose mission, novel portion, fight, rinse and repeat. Is it any good though? Is the story engaging and compelling? Is the combat enough to justify the "RPG" formula? We will look at the story, the art, and the combat. All of which leads to a game that is more than expected. Let’s explore the world of Noctuary! By Al Players: 1
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, XBox, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 Rising Dusk is a platformer game that comes to us by way of Ratalaika Games and Shinyuden. It's available on all major consoles, and it sets out to do the unthinkable. That's right, it takes the platforming genre and attempts to shake it by adding some unique elements. This tall order is done by way of its core system that relies heavily on not picking up the many collectables scattered throughout the level. Literally the opposite of what platformers have taught us all over the years. The question is if this take on the genre actually makes for a fun game, or if we're going to want to just jump back to Donkey Kong 64 after this. Let's dive into the game and find out! By Janette Players: 1 Platforms: Nintendo Switch, XBox One, XBox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC Dredge: The Pale Reach is a pretty inexpensive DLC for one of the best and most stressful fishing games I’ve played in a long time. While the DLC won’t cost you much more than a $5 box from Taco Bell, is there enough there for you to really sink your ship into? Or are the icy depths no cooler than the glass of water on your nightstand?

Platforms: Nintendo Switch My Next Life As a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! -Pirates of the Disturbance- (hereafter referred to simply as Pirates of the Disturbance or My Next Life as a Villainess) is an otome visual novel game that comes to us by way of Otomate and Idea Factory. It serves as a side story/follow-up to the My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! light novel and anime series, and is available now on the Nintendo Switch. I'm going to be reviewing this game as a complete newbie to both the franchise itself, and the greater otome game genre too. My views might be a bit different from those who are more familiar with both, but this should be an interesting journey nonetheless I'm sure. I am quite familiar with visual novels in general though, so it's not like the game will be coming out of complete left field for me. Anyhow, there's a lot to cover here, so we're going to cut the introductory bits a little short and get right to the review proper! |
