Monster Hunter finally returns to home consoles with Monster Hunter World, which launched to much anticipation and praise on Friday, January 26th, and Capcom has announced a bunch of DLC plans to keep hunters busy throughout the coming months. The good news is most of the DLC for World is free. The only stuff I’ve seen so far that is paid for is cosmetic items, special communication gestures and stickers, and the Samurai set that is otherwise exclusive to the collector’s edition of World. The Monster Hunter team seems pretty set on offering lots of important content (read: limited time quests, some with cool armor rewards, along with general game updates adding more quests) for free, continuing the franchise’s tradition of giving you plenty to do and a reason to hop back into the game. The first major game update is slated for this coming spring, bringing the beloved Deviljho to World. No word yet on if this update will also bring other quests or new arena challenges as well, but I imagine this update is a good time to add those in. Limited time quest wise, available now is the Playstation 4 exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn collaboration, netting hunters a Watcher Palico outfit. No word on when the second quest that adds hunter gear based on Horizon’s Aloy will be out, but I imagine it’ll be soon. Other announced DLC includes a Mega Man collaboration, with a Mega Man Palico outfit and fun MM chiptunes; and a Street Fighter V collaboration offering hunters the chance to be Ryu or Sakura in World. The Street Fighter quests will start off as an exclusive to PS4 players who also have SFV save data, but will be available to all PS4 and Xbox players shortly after. I’m sure as the weeks go on, we’ll see lots of content announcements for World. With it having shipped over 5 million copies worldwide already, I doubt Capcom will abandon plans to expand the game anytime soon.
