Platforms: XBox, PlayStation 5, PC Being a fan of the shmup genre, I was excited when CYGNI: All Guns Blazing (Hereafter simply referred to as "CYGNI") first popped onto my radar. Coming to us by way of Konami, who have previously brought us the Gradius and TwinBee series, I was drawn in by their promise of this game kicking off a new generation of shoot-em ups. (Or as I called them earlier: "shmups".) That was quite the boast to make for a game that didn't have a lot of information behind it, but if anyone could pull it off, it would be them. The wait is now over, and CYGNI is currently available on the XBox Series X|S, the PlayStation 5, and on PC. I played the PC version for this review, but I think all of what I have to say will be relevant across the board. There's a lot to go over in this one, so let's dive right in! By Manuel Players: 1
Platforms: PC Not too long ago I reviewed a game called The Bridge Curse: Road to Salvation (Which you can find HERE.), and gave it a decently high rating. It was a game based on a hit Taiwanese movie, and was developed by SoftStar Entertainment, the studio also behind the Xuan-Yuan Sword series. Earlier this year, a sequel titled The Bridge Curse 2: The Extrication (Hereafter referred to as simply "Bridge Curse 2".) was released on PC via Steam by way of publisher PQube. I knew that I had to get my hands on it, and that's exactly what I did. Being a huge fan of the horror genre, and the first game in general, I figured this was a must-review game for me. How does it stand up to the first game? Did it improve on the gameplay elements I criticized in my last review? Is it actually scary? We'll answer all those questions and more in this review. There's a lot to cover in this one, so let's dive right in! By Al Players: 1
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, XBox, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC Genres are an interesting thing, and the game we're going to look at today brings together several gameplay elements that seem like they wouldn't do well together. Mists of Noyah is a game developed by Pyxeralia, and published by QUByte Interactive. It's out now on all major platforms, and we're going to be taking a look at the Nintendo Switch version today. I'll get to what I mean about that genre thing in due course, but we're going to have a lot to cover before we get there. Seeing as further intros will only slow us down, let's dive right in! Platforms: Nintendo Switch, XBox, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 When I first saw preview images for the game Turn to Mine, my mind immediately went to Minesweeper. I mainly found myself thinking about the fact that, try as I might, I never understood how Minesweeper was meant to be played. Though Turn to Mine turned out to have nothing in common with that PC classic, it's still the puzzle game that we're going to be looking at today. It's set to arrive on all major consoles soon by way of publisher Sometimes You, and we're going to be checking out the Nintendo Switch in particular. This is going to be a somewhat quick one, so let's dive right in! By Manuel Players: 1
Platforms: PC I'm a sucker for any game involving pirates, and I've been lucky enough to play several such titles this year. Most of them focused on the pirate part of the equation, as in sailing, exploring, adventuring, and plundering, but the game we're looking at today leans into the simulation side of things. Republic of Pirates is a city builder that was developed by Crazy Goat Games, and published by PQube. It seeks to fill the void left by other classic games in the genre, a point that we'll discuss in more detail later. It's out now on Steam, and we're going to dive right in now that the intros are out of the way! By Manuel Players: 1
Platforms: PC, VR (Meta Quest 2 & Meta Quest 3) I'm no stranger to the Myst franchise, as I've played through the original trilogy more times than I can imagine. Myst, and its sequel Riven, were particular favorites in my youth, and I've purchased them several times over the years. I've played them on PC, I played them via contemporary console ports, and I've even played the many releases that have popped up over the years. Even though it's been about 15 years since I've played them last, it's safe to say that I know them very well. This review is going to look at yet another re-release of Riven: The Sequel to Myst, but one that adds a new dimension its gameplay. Riven has now entered the VR space, and it's now available on most major VR platforms. I'll be playing it on the Meta Quest 2, though I think the experience will be mostly the same across the board. With the intros out of the way, let's dive right in! By Al Players: 1
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, XBox, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC Every so often a game comes along that takes a classic formula and tosses new elements into the mix. Dungeonoid 2 Awakening (referred to as simply "Dungeonoid 2" from here) is one of those games. Mixing block-breaking gameplay with light RPG elements, it released on all major platforms earlier this year. We're going to be taking a look at the Nintendo Switch version today, though it will be representative of the experience you'll get across all the versions. Will the gameplay mix work out well? I guess we'll have to play it to find out! Let's dive in! By Manuel Players: 1-2 (Local)
Platforms: Nintendo Switch We've reviewed a lot of NSFW/ecchi titles in the past here at A-to-J, but I never would've imagined in a million years that we'd one day be reviewing a game titled "PumPum". That sounds like slang that I don't want to have in my search history, and it most definitely is something that I won't ever be saying out loud. What I will say about it though is that it's a NSFW puzzle game that's coming soon to the Nintendo Switch, following an earlier release on Steam. We're going to be taking a look at it today and see if it's worth adding to your collection. This is going to be a wild one, so let's ditch the intros and dive right in! |
