Visual kei band SuG recently released their latest music video ‘AGAKU,’ promoting their new EP of the same name. The EP drops on the fifth of July, with all types of the release containing four brand-new tracks.
The titular song’s video features front-man Takeru’s distinctive fashion sense, a catchy rap sequence, and an impressive slap-bass riff from bassist Chiyu. The official website describes the tune as being ‘something along the likes of hip hop and EDM, along with various other genres. This five-piece band have an interesting melodic take on the visual kei genre and followed up that first single release with their first EP, "Ningen Shikkaku". It was in this period that we at A-to-J sat down with them to discuss their beginnings, their sound, and their future as a band. Unfortunately for everyone involved they recently announced that they would be breaking up due to musical differences though we hope that everyone can still enjoy their great music and this interview!
It has been an interesting nine years for Japanese rock duo VAMPS. Forged in 2008 by two musicians already famous in their own right -- HYDE, vocalist of the legendary pop-rock band L’Arc~en~Ciel (anime fans may recognize his voice from the Full Metal Alchemist opening, “Ready Steady Go”) and K.A.Z. from the grittier alt-rock Oblivion Dust. They are supported by bassist Ju-ken (GacktJOB, Spin Aqua, Tomoyasu Hotei), Jin Saito (L’Arc~en~Ciel support), and Arimatsu.
Having already worked together for three years on HYDE’s chart-topping solo albums 666 and Faith, VAMPS just seemed like more of a good thing, even if it was just a cheeky side project. Pentagon is one of the hottest visual kei bands around today and following a string of strong releases and tours they recently announced that they are embarking on their first overseas live performance at A-Kon in Texas! To go along with this overseas expansion they also took on the name "Pentagon Japan"! With all these announcements and the release of latest single, "CRAZY TRIBE", we at A-to-J decided that now was a good time to get some answers from the band themselves about their history, their music, and their upcoming trip to the US!
Codomo Dragon bring in a new single of dynamic songs just in time for the spring season. Titled “Kono Sekai Owari Da”, this new release lives up to their trademark style of mixing dark topics with vibrant overtones, with the following tracks sounding just as exciting.
A-To-J ha estado siguiendo a Avanchick y ha notado el cómo ha incrementado el número de sus seguidores desde el año pasado. A-to-J has been watching the momentum Avanchick has gained within the past year. They hit a key milestone recently by releasing their first album titled “Ashita Moshi Sekai ga Owattemo” and now are planned to have their overseas debut performing at Tokyo in Tulsa this July! Unfortunately good news is tempered by bad and not long after this announcement a second came that mentioned that they would be breaking up in the Fall. That end is still a while off and, in an effort to continue to support Avanchick, we took the time to talk with vocalist NOAH about the band, the new album, their overseas live debut, their biggest accomplishments in 2016, and more!
Formed in 2014, RAINDIA have put out several releases of alternative metal music. Late 2016 saw the creation of their official YouTube channel, where the band gave previews of their live performances along with their first single, Trash Juice. With this release, the band demonstrated a shift from their usual heavy tunes to an implementation of softer and more upbeat musical elements.
One of Japan's most beloved Visual kei band Meteoroid disbanded and will be forming a new band named GreeΣ pronounced GreeM. The announcement was made on February 11th, 2017. MeteoroiD, being a veteran band, shocked the world with the news and will always be in everyone's heart. I personally feel that too many bands have been breaking up lately and its getting to a point to where anything can happen to lots of bands we all love. I do worry for the future of the industry at times but I do believe in the members of every band and trust their judgment. They do have normal lives outside of music of course. Below will be a press release from our good friend Haley Marinovich who both published and translated the press release: GreeΣ (GreeM)
