February 28, 2023 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Fangy Description: Ultra Podcast Z is closing out our "Febu-any" streams which were really just a random thing, but somewhat important in that we had an entire full month (five in this case) of shows with no breaks; something we haven't done in a surprisingly long time. Fangy joined us on this one, and this was actually the very first "Febu-any" episode we planned back in January. We had decided to talk retro gaming and we covered it pretty well even though we didn't quite move through all the topics we planned to. A fun topic and we discussed a lot about our favorite games, what we consider retro and lots more. It probably will shock no one that Manuel and Fangy had pretty different takes on all the topics and longtime viewers can probably see the parts where things like Final Fantasy IX, Metroid Prime, and other games that Manuel has ranted about get mentioned. With that said, we did stay mostly on topic throughout, and even though we promised that we'd sprinkle in a bunch of then-recent news topics we had listed in our show notes, we never actually got around to them. All this aside, that idea of a Gaming Club (similar to a Book of The Month Club) sounds like a lot of fun and more people should form them. If anyone has something similar be sure to let us know in the comments as we'd love to hear it. February 21, 2023 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Haro Description: Ultra Podcast Z continues its streak of "Febru-any" episodes as JD took this somewhat off night to host an anime game show takeover. The games we played on this one are actually something of a preview for two panels that he will be hosting at Tora-Con next month. We originally intended to have a few more "contestants" on this one but we were forced to trim things down a little and only a non-video Haro was ultimately able to join us very last minute. This was still a fun show though, and seeing as it ran a little over time-wise, it was probably for the best that we didn't have more people on. Also, this show references two Drink Talk Learn episodes: a still-"lost" episode that featured JD hosting a much more difficult version of "Um, Actually", and an episode that featured Callie talking about the game show "Only Connect". (We have not been able to pinpoint the latter.) Speaking of these games, that's pretty much all this episode is, two anime versions of "Um, Actually" (which is also a game Molly hosted on a different Drink Talk Learn, but with a different theme, so three DTL episodes...) and "Only Connect", which was a lot of fun, if more difficult to play at times. February 14, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Pleiades Description: Ultra Podcast Z took place on Valentine's Day this past week and we're not totally sure if we've ever done that before... There's a first time for everything though! We had previously talked about how Valentine's Day is one of the worst days to go out and do anything since everywhere is crowded, and it was with this mentality that Pleiades rolled up for this episode! It was a lot of fun and we covered less than half of the topics that we had planned to. That wasn't because we went off track, or got lost, but because we had a lot to say about the things we covered and we also might have over planned this one. Anyhow, everyone was on point and there were a lot of funny bits here and there and it doesn't have as much as the ad hoc topics feel that a few recent episodes have. We also revealed at the top of the show that we are planning on ending (more like we're going to rebrand) Ultra Podcast Z and, while we probably won't do that at Episode 200 as we initially planned, that's something you can look forward to in the future as things like that always serve to revitalize things for a bit. February 7, 2023 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Photaku Description: Ultra Podcast Z is back to Tuesday after two random Wednesday shows! Photaku joined us this week as we tackled some interesting topics that mainly had to do with the Switch (upcoming Nintendo Direct and new sales records) and Hogwart's Legacy. The latter topic doesn't need any introduction as the game's release, and the reaction to it, has taken over just about every corner of the internet. We're not here to change anyone's mind, but we have our views and they were all laid out here. Elsewhere we talked about Sally Amaki voicing in both English & Japanese, the passing of the creator of the first known AMV, Anime Expo selling out of its first line of badges, and even managed to talk a lot about anime, which isn't something we do a lot on the show. There was a lot of randomness in between as well and it was a lot of fun all things considered. A more structured episode where we had a lot of topics lined up unlike the more freeform episodes that kicked off 2023, so let's just carry on from here! January 31, 2023 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Hinacchi Description: Ultra Podcast Z is getting a little bit of a makeover as these longer descriptions are only going to be on the site from here on out. If you watch on the site... well, comment below or something to let us know if we should keep writing these! Anyway, Hinacchi was set to be on this one and was about thirty minutes late but rather than start late we decided to just go on normally and kill time until she showed up. We talked Fire Emblem, streaming, and other recent news stuff before she dropped in and then we talked all sorts of update stuff, anime cons we want to go to, Hina's maid/idol activities, her OnlyFans and more. It was a pretty random episode as we DID have some semblance of topics but we were kind of at a loss due to the late start. There was a very zoom-y cat though just out of frame so there's that! It was a fun episode though like always and there's a lot of hot takes and topics that you might have an opinion on, and we'd love to hear it! January 25, 2023 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Snakz Description: Ultra Podcast Z had a bit of shakiness as there were cons, sickness, and all-around cancellations that caused our return to happen a lot later than we would have hoped. Also, once we were ready to return a last minute concert made it that we were going to have to host this episode on a Wednesday instead of a Tuesday, which would normally be our gaming stream... but those are still awaiting their return too. It's a very odd situation that only effects us and the tens of people that watch, but an odd situation nonetheless. Snakz joined here as our original idea was to discuss ALA, recent cons, and some upcoming concerts and events for the year. We definitely did the first one but maybe lost the plot for a bit before coming back to randomness and discussing cons and events later this year. We did talk a bit about concerts here and there but a lot of our storytime might be lost to people who aren't regular viewers as there are some bits that lack context if you're just dropping in randomly. Sorry about that but episodes after long breaks usually have an odd feel to them where everyone is trying to get back into the groove of things, and this one is no exception. December 21, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Photaku Description: Ultra Podcast Z took place on a Wednesday for the first time in years as we really wanted to give this episode another chance and it turns out that third time really is the charm! We originally going to close the year out with three episodes right up until Christmas Eve week, but things went a little wonky as Josh, who ultimately hosted this one, was unavailable and then Hinacchi, who was supposed to be on the final, got sick... it was a rough time and it seemed like we'd just do what we could to close the year. Then Manuel lost power on the night of the final and we at first decided to just close the year off early until deciding to maybe give it one last go on a Wednesday since our normal Wed. stream was delayed also this week. All, this nonsense aside we brought the show together and managed to cover the topic we initially wanted to cover with Photaku (Josh) that we weren't able to last week! We had written out several "big" topics in 2022 that we either didn't cover properly on the show throughout the year, or covered very casually. We only really got to like three of these topics but we touched upon some others quickly at the beginning and the end. If you want to hear us talk about Elon Musk, AI art, and some nonsense surrounding Anime Los Angeles and other recent SoCal cons, then check this one out! If not, check it out anyway since this episode was a lot of fun and it took many tries to get going! December 6, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Tiffany Description: Ultra Podcast Z is back to some regular scheduling, and our end-of-year episodes. This is always a weird time for us as we have the anniversary, the holidays (which we tend to never have time to REALLY cover), and end-of-year/look forward to next year stuff to talk about. As we mentioned on the last episode where we had Snakz on, we had Tiffany on this one to look back at 2022 and to talk a bit about our anniversary. It was fun having her on as she hasn't been on streams since around 2020. The core of this episode was supposed to be discussing what it's like going to events and conventions in 2022, arguably the first full year where the "panini" is considered "over". All that is arguable, but the fact of it is that we are all definitely going to events and those events are quite different than they were pre-2020. We definitely had a lot to say about this, especially Tiffany who experienced performing at conventions in 2022 and even unfortunately got sick in the middle of the year, but we didn't cover the topic as fully as we probably could've. That's what you sometimes get with UPZ though right? There was a lot of randomness at the beginning and the end, but also to be expected, but it was a fun episode and we're in the holiday season so let's just continue with the regularity as it is. Next week we're going to cover some of the hot topics we didn't cover in the main body of episodes, which we also sorta teased at the end of this one, and for the first time in a long while, it looks like we're going to have episodes right up until Christmas before taking a break until after New Year's. November 29, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Snakz Description: Ultra Podcast Z took a bit of a break for Thanksgiving but did you all know that that marks A-to-J's official anniversary? We sort of have two as A-to-J officially formed in July 2014 but the site itself didn't go live until Thanksgiving 2014 so we consider that the anniversary, doubly so since it's somewhat of a floating one which goes well with the shakiness of when things "began". For this trip down memory lane we brought on Snakz who discussed a lot of the early days and gave a bit of insight on the various stages of A-to-J and how things have changed over the years. It's insane to think that we've all been at this for nearly a decade and that just about all the people who were around at Day One are still here now. People have come and gone since then, but the core team has shockingly remained mostly unchanged. Snakz was an early member, to the point that his "First Generation" status became something of a meme withing A-to-J itself as he kind of just did random things, or orbited around us, for many years. That's not really the case the past few years though as he takes part in a lot of streams now and also is panelist on one of our newer panels. Anyhow, there's a lot we could've talked about but we had a lot of fun talking about past stuff here and many of the stories we told were ones that we either have never talked about publicly, or are ones that we rarely cover. November 15, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Badman Description: Ultra Podcast Z is getting ready to wrap up the year and we have a few more episodes before the normal end of year stuff. This episode's idea came from two short segments from the Wednesday "A-to-J Adventure" streams, which in turn came from a Punk Rock MBA video, where we talked about albums we considered "no skip albums", meaning that every song is a banger, or at least worth listening to. It was a bit different this time around as we also added bits on albums that are ALMOST no skip albums and on albums that might've been no skips if we were making this list years ago. As far as our album picks go though, they are all over the place and I guess that can be expected due to all our different music tastes. This was a fun episode that flew by and we weren't even able to cover all the things we wanted to via the notes we made before the show, so maybe we'll tackle this again in 2023 with different co-hosts.
