This is always a weird time for us as we have the anniversary, the holidays (which we tend to never have time to REALLY cover), and end-of-year/look forward to next year stuff to talk about. As we mentioned on the last episode where we had Snakz on, we had Tiffany on this one to look back at 2022 and to talk a bit about our anniversary. It was fun having her on as she hasn't been on streams since around 2020. The core of this episode was supposed to be discussing what it's like going to events and conventions in 2022, arguably the first full year where the "panini" is considered "over". All that is arguable, but the fact of it is that we are all definitely going to events and those events are quite different than they were pre-2020. We definitely had a lot to say about this, especially Tiffany who experienced performing at conventions in 2022 and even unfortunately got sick in the middle of the year, but we didn't cover the topic as fully as we probably could've. That's what you sometimes get with UPZ though right? There was a lot of randomness at the beginning and the end, but also to be expected, but it was a fun episode and we're in the holiday season so let's just continue with the regularity as it is. Next week we're going to cover some of the hot topics we didn't cover in the main body of episodes, which we also sorta teased at the end of this one, and for the first time in a long while, it looks like we're going to have episodes right up until Christmas before taking a break until after New Year's. November 29, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Snakz Description: Ultra Podcast Z took a bit of a break for Thanksgiving but did you all know that that marks A-to-J's official anniversary? We sort of have two as A-to-J officially formed in July 2014 but the site itself didn't go live until Thanksgiving 2014 so we consider that the anniversary, doubly so since it's somewhat of a floating one which goes well with the shakiness of when things "began". For this trip down memory lane we brought on Snakz who discussed a lot of the early days and gave a bit of insight on the various stages of A-to-J and how things have changed over the years. It's insane to think that we've all been at this for nearly a decade and that just about all the people who were around at Day One are still here now. People have come and gone since then, but the core team has shockingly remained mostly unchanged. Snakz was an early member, to the point that his "First Generation" status became something of a meme withing A-to-J itself as he kind of just did random things, or orbited around us, for many years. That's not really the case the past few years though as he takes part in a lot of streams now and also is panelist on one of our newer panels. Anyhow, there's a lot we could've talked about but we had a lot of fun talking about past stuff here and many of the stories we told were ones that we either have never talked about publicly, or are ones that we rarely cover. November 15, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Badman Description: Ultra Podcast Z is getting ready to wrap up the year and we have a few more episodes before the normal end of year stuff. This episode's idea came from two short segments from the Wednesday "A-to-J Adventure" streams, which in turn came from a Punk Rock MBA video, where we talked about albums we considered "no skip albums", meaning that every song is a banger, or at least worth listening to. It was a bit different this time around as we also added bits on albums that are ALMOST no skip albums and on albums that might've been no skips if we were making this list years ago. As far as our album picks go though, they are all over the place and I guess that can be expected due to all our different music tastes. This was a fun episode that flew by and we weren't even able to cover all the things we wanted to via the notes we made before the show, so maybe we'll tackle this again in 2023 with different co-hosts. November 8, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Badman Description: Ultra Podcast Z is finally over the convention stuff that took us by surprise the last few weeks and we came back after the spoopy season to come back around for our second take on the recent fantasy TV shows that debuted this year: "Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power" and "House of The Dragon". Both are prequel series and we had a LOT to say about them before and just as much to say about them now that they have both wrapped. It's kind of clear which one we preferred, but we tried to take our critique of "Rings of Power" in totally different directions than most people online have. You can't really fight it that one of the shows was far more put together than the other, no matter if one of them started filming during the 2020 lockdowns. Anyhow, there are a lot of hot takes and a LOT of spoilers throughout but check it out and maybe we'll do this again next year when the second season drops but maybe with a bit more form to the episode itself. Also, we are nearing A-to-J's anniversary, and the end of the year, so keep watchin to see us wrap up 2022. Will Nyaru will return? We shall see! October 25, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Photaku DarkWest Description: Ultra Podcast Z has had a shaky Halloween series this year, mainly due to a couple conventions that take place at the end of the month so planning was a bit off this time. We always planned to have a Tier List and a Watch-Along though and we were DETERMINED to fulfill those two scheduled shows! First off, it must be said that this episode has a FEW sound issues as we (the hosts) aren't quite as loud as we probably should be compared to the movie, but due to the nature of the stream, there isn't much we can do about it at the end. Also, this was done fairly last minute, despite the planning, and took place in a very busy time for everyone involved. Nyaru was still missing but the original co-hosts were not available this day (We originally wanted to recreate the "Night of The Living Dead" host crew from last year.) but we did our best. Also, the chat was a little cursed with how dead it was, so we covered it up in YouTube so it wouldn't be too distracting. It was still a lot of fun with Photaku and Weston joining us and we really enjoyed this movie even though it was VERY random at times and not quite what we were expecting even though we were very familiar with it. It's still crazy that this movie was filmed in a weekend and just as crazy that Roger Corman never cared enough to copyright it so he would get nothing from the eventual musical masterpiece this turned into. October 18, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Fangy Description: Ultra Podcast Z still hasn't seen Nyaru return but we had another VTuber guest this time around in the form of Fangy! We love doing tier lists in general and we always do at least ONE for our Halloween streams so it only made sense that we plan one out this year. We originally were going to have a Halloween Candy Redux, but we decided to do a Cryptid Tier List since that's actually an idea that's been on our backburner for a few years now and we had the perfect co-host in mind for this one! What's interesting is that we had a lot of trouble finding (and even creating) our own tier list in the typical way so at the last minute, like literally right before we went live, we decided that we were going to do it live in the purest sense. That means that we were going to open up a Paint document and DRAW the tier list as we went along. I say "we" but in fact all the drawing was done by JD, our mod, so be sure to give him a round of applause for this. Also, be sure to give Manuel a round of applause as he had a headache for much of this show and it was quite the effort to get through. All in all, this was a really fun, crazy unique episode the kind that we haven't seen in a bit so check it out and let us know what you think of our list! October 4, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Hao Description: Ultra Podcast Z is back on its Halloween bs and this is an interesting episode as we were originally going to have a completely different JD-centric episode due to some schedule nonsense and put together this episode just hours before go-time. This isn't TOO far from the usual UPZ nonsense, but it is interesting that we got Hao onto the show for the first time, thus completing his trifecta of appearing on every main A-to-J show we have! In the older days of our October episodes we used to cover the same topics with new hosts so we SORT OF did that here and went over some trick or treating memories and horror media stuff, but we kinda lost that plot about midway in. That was fine though as we had more than enough to talk about and even though Hao apparently isn't a big consumer of horror media that doesn't come in the form of movies (he REALLY needs to get on that horror musical thing though!) we still managed to talk a LOT about Twilight Zone towards the end. It's almost as if we had a Twilight Zone themed episode and kind of wasted it on the last segment here. That's fine though, maybe we'll have one in the future complete with monologue and us mouthing the theme. Would that be interesting or just ridiculous? We shall see! September 20, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nestor Description: Ultra Podcast Z is back! Well, we never left this time but there was a lot of nonsense lately that almost made this episode a bit of a lost one as we didn't have a host lined up in light of all the recent stuff going on (such as being busy with PMX and other cons coming up) but Nestor came in clutch at pretty much the eleventh hour. We didn't really mention it live, though it was referenced in the podcast title, but Nestor works at Gamestop and it was an idea that we'd have another gaming topic episode where we covered things like microtransactions / loot boxes / gacha games and other nonsense along with maybe a smattering of retail stories. We kind of went into this without the biggest of ideas of what we were going to talk about but we also had both a fun time and a random time. Excuse all the jumping around, but we did get to most of the key topics we wanted to but only touched on some of the recent Rings of Power & House of The Dragon updates since it turns out that Nestor hasn't watched either, so keep an eye out for that in an upcoming episode. Somehow we even tackled the idea of "girl games" and "gamer girls" without coming off crazy controversial! ... maybe! Anyway, we're all nerds here so just have fun with us for a bit even if this is quite the random episode. Also, Genshin Impact-ing my bank account! Let's go! September 13, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Badman Description: Ultra Podcast Z had an accidentally long break with both JD and co-host issues causing us to skip about three weeks of shows. We return however with the topic we planned to cover the week before: New fantasy TV in the form of "Rings of Power" and "House of The Dragon", continuations of the "Lord of The Rings" and "Game of Thrones" franchises respectively. During our break a Nintendo Direct was announced and took place the morning before the show so we also covered some bits of that before really diving into things. We didn't really cover all the fantasy stuff we probably intended too since we got some of the hotter takes out of our system before we went live, mainly so we wouldn't add to some nonsense already circling around these new shows. With that said, we had our critiques but they were far more than the "why did they cast THEM!" that you have probably heard in other takedowns of the show. Spoiler Alert: We weren't that harsh on them and we couldn't help but point out that we're comparing them mainly due to the timing of their launch and overall genre, but there really isn't much that you can compare here in general. Also, towards the end of the show we talked about our upcoming appearance at Pacific Media Expo and we wanted to point out that it is taking place at the San Gabriel SHERATON, not the Hilton. August 16, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Jessie Adam Description: Ultra Podcast Z has been carrying on without Nyaru for the past few weeks (she will be back soon!) and this week we saw TWO guests! Adam & Jessie are friends of our mod JD, and are also associated with Tora-con, and we had a lot of topics to talk about with them. There was a little bit of confusion on WHAT the topic would be and rather than talk about paneling at anime conventions (what Manuel thought) we discussed the topics that they paneled on. This took us to some interesting places though as an episode on cheap Japan travel, Japanese bread, and AMVs are really interesting topics and we all stayed mostly on point, and active, throughout the entire run time. We honestly could've talked JUST about our experiences travelling in Japan as there was clearly a lot more we all had to say and all the hosts clearly had very different takes on what made up a good trip to Japan. There was even a time lapse bread breaking video towards the end which is crazy when you remember the entire "Boomer Hates Bread" UPZ thing from 2020. Oh, and there is even a Pusheen unboxing to randomly round things out at the end! We hope to have Jessie & Adam back at some point in the future as this was a really fun episode and we think you'll find it so as well!
