May 10, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Description: Ultra Podcast Z never really left but we've been without JD and Nyaru for a few weeks now. They were both back for this one which is the second episode of "Ani-May" and we tackled the topic of Idol Anime, which is something we'd actually talked about covering before Offkai Expo but it somehow got away from us in the scheduling. There's the usual nonsense at the beginning and we got into a Nyaru-specific version of Offkai Recap which was actually quite interesting in a behind-the-scenes way and we even talked a bit about Maid Day (which it was when we had this episode) before going into the topic proper. We talked about a lot of our favorites like Zombieland Saga, Kirarin Revolution, and AKB0048. We then talked about some of the big idol anime franchises like PriPara, IDOLM@STER, Love Live, and why no one like Aikatsu even though it's one of the best. We then covered a topic we hadn't visited in a while: What Love Live did to the idol scene at large in the US, especially when it comes to anime conventions. An interesting topic that we all had something to get off our chests and we circled back around to more idol anime recs (check out Wake Up Girls!) and more before we closed this one out. A nice continuation into Ani-May so be sure to watch the next two episodes in this special month! Also, Nyaru is stinky, that is all. April 20, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Hinacchi Description: Ultra Podcast Z is celebrating 420 with a DOUBLE VTUBER SPECIAL! We actually had the idea to do a fast and loose idol-themed episode after our bigger take on idol documentaries keeps getting delayed. As such we asked Hinacchi to come back and to our surprise she showed up in her VTuber form this time around! Now, we have to stop for a second to talk about this video. Ever since we got a mod for the show we have pointed out that the "twitch versions" and "YouTube versions" of the show would actually be rather unique from here on and that has been the case until this week where we didn't record a "YouTube version" and had to use the twitch version on both sites. It's still very watchable, but there are some visual differences from all the other episodes on YouTube so bear with us if you're a regular viewer. As for the topics covered in this show (mostly idol themed), you'll also have to bear with us as we decided early on that we'd try a take on our "Shooting The Sh*t" style show (A twitch-only show where we fill in cancelled shows with a low-effort talk show stream) where the topics are more open and we play off each other a bit more. This worked at various points and probably didn't at others, but we still managed to cover most of what we wanted even with our big talk about fried rice and boba at the beginning. March 30, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Pleiades Description: Ultra Podcast Z is back on schedule and this week we decided to tackle April Fools' Day head on a couple days early! We actually were thinking that we'd go back to an older episode format where we mined Reddit and other similar online cesspools of nonsense for funny content to react, read, or show off but we decided to cover actual topics as a lot of relevant topics or "people acting like fools" presented themselves in the interim between the planning and the writing of this show. Pleiades joined in as a guest as he seemed the right fit for this topic, and there is something in bringing him onto a different A-to-J stream since there is no DTL this week. Before we talk more about this episode it should be mentioned that there is an audio quirk with this episode as the audio is ever slightly a second off from the video. It's only really noticeable with Pleiades as his mouth is the only visible one when speaking, but let's just say that WE were acting like fools when it came to recording this one! (In reality it was just standard audio issues that we were actually worried would make this a "lost" episode, but it was fixed as best as we could) This is rambling, go watch for all the foolishness and catch us live next week when we talk cryptids! May 4, 2020 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Konaru Tiffany Hinacchi Description: Ultra Podcast Z is still in quarantine, but that is ending soon for better or worse so will our stream schedule go back to normal? Of course not! This is the first of three episodes in the week of its uploading and this one features Tiffany and Hinacchi, both returning after long absences. The topic here was supposed to be the current glut of online streaming in Japan and the changing idol world, but we included a lot of randomness in between. We touched upon some topics that might even be considered "controversial" as we discussed how JAV is viewed in Japan and if something like OnlyFans would work there in the idol scene as some (though important to note, not in any percentage, all) in the overseas idol scene are taking to the site. Even if Japan doesn't though, it IS changing how fans consume content and support their favorite idols and we looked not only into that (anyone getting phone calls from your fav artists?) and how this might affect the scene going forward. This has almost become a tradition at this point and we're glad that we were able to schedule one before the year is out! Owing to the nature of these types of episodes they are a lot more laid back and this one featured a lot of side track conversations including a long one about pets!
