May 18, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Badman Description: Ultra Podcast Z was ready to go with this food episode but we went with Badman instead of Hinacchi (who was on when we decided that we wanted to have an episode where we just talked about food) As usual though, nothing can go quite that simple for UPZ. We started out with a LONG series of takes on Miyawaki Sakura announcing her graduation from HKT48 and what that means for her KPop career. We also took the opportunity to rag on IZ*ONE one more time just for kicks. We then moved into the food topic proper where we continued our talk about fried rice and discussed a recent situation where Manuel was wondering if his actions would label him a "Karen". We went on and on a bit after this talking about changes to fast food menus recently, both due to the current pandemic and otherwise, and gave a brief talk on our favorite chicken menu items as chicken and chicken sandwiches are all the rage in food these days. It was somewhere around the hour mark where Nyaru was forced to run off and bounce from the show and it Manuel and Badman continued on as a duo. This is interesting as in another version of this episode it would've been just Manuel and Nyaru and we'd probably have had one of the shortest UPZ episodes ever if that were the case. Anyhow, we talked soy sauce and lots of other nonsense before closing out the show and this is one of those fast and loose topics that we'll most definitely cover again in the future as soon as we can, probably with Hinacchi next time. May 11, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru MysteryOtaku Description: Ultra Podcast Z took a really long break before this one with two weeks with no episode and our return was a LITTLE shaky. Originally we had a co-host lined up and they were forced to cancel earlier on and it was decided that our mod/shadow host JD (AKA MysteryOtaku) would jump on-screen for the first time as an official co-host. The thing was that the internet wasn't really liking this one and we were plagued with problems from the get-go to the point that MysteryOtaku was forced to cut himself out of the show and was basically unable to do much else because of various computer issues. To make matters even quirkier, this YouTube version has a false start at the beginning (Tried to cut it out with YouTube but it wasn't liking the processing of the video afterwards so that was abandoned) and there is a few minutes of a still image (the thumbnail as it were) where the screen recording was lost, the VOD was also lost so this is the only version that exists so we hope that you bear with us. All that nonsense aside, this was a really fun show that featured a livelier Nyaru than we've seen in a while covering a lot of recent news topics including some video game, anime, and music updates and more. Hopefully this is as entertaining to watch as it was live and the quirks of the recording aren't too detrimental to anyone's enjoyment. April 20, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Hinacchi Description: Ultra Podcast Z is celebrating 420 with a DOUBLE VTUBER SPECIAL! We actually had the idea to do a fast and loose idol-themed episode after our bigger take on idol documentaries keeps getting delayed. As such we asked Hinacchi to come back and to our surprise she showed up in her VTuber form this time around! Now, we have to stop for a second to talk about this video. Ever since we got a mod for the show we have pointed out that the "twitch versions" and "YouTube versions" of the show would actually be rather unique from here on and that has been the case until this week where we didn't record a "YouTube version" and had to use the twitch version on both sites. It's still very watchable, but there are some visual differences from all the other episodes on YouTube so bear with us if you're a regular viewer. As for the topics covered in this show (mostly idol themed), you'll also have to bear with us as we decided early on that we'd try a take on our "Shooting The Sh*t" style show (A twitch-only show where we fill in cancelled shows with a low-effort talk show stream) where the topics are more open and we play off each other a bit more. This worked at various points and probably didn't at others, but we still managed to cover most of what we wanted even with our big talk about fried rice and boba at the beginning. April 13, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Dr. Wes Description: Ultra Podcast Z had a cryptid episode lined up for a few weeks now but we took a short unscheduled break last week so as chance would have it, its reschedule fell on "Tuesday The 13th"! The importance of that day? Nothing at all, just another stupid thing we make up for the show, but we were finally able to talk cryptids! Even though we had a full outline for this one, and Weston joining us as a guest, it was a little hard to give this one form and not have it just become one of the documentaries that we dunked on. We shared our knowledge, background, some personal stories, and also reacted to some stuff we were looking up online. A rather structured episode for something that you'd think we'd have just winged live. That said, this was a somewhat shorter episode than usual (not really intended, just wrapped a little earlier than we probably needed to) so we will definitely be coming back to this topic someday. We didn't even manage to cover the topic of creepypastas and online cryptid culture which was the topic that actually launched this entire idea in the first place. March 30, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Pleiades Description: Ultra Podcast Z is back on schedule and this week we decided to tackle April Fools' Day head on a couple days early! We actually were thinking that we'd go back to an older episode format where we mined Reddit and other similar online cesspools of nonsense for funny content to react, read, or show off but we decided to cover actual topics as a lot of relevant topics or "people acting like fools" presented themselves in the interim between the planning and the writing of this show. Pleiades joined in as a guest as he seemed the right fit for this topic, and there is something in bringing him onto a different A-to-J stream since there is no DTL this week. Before we talk more about this episode it should be mentioned that there is an audio quirk with this episode as the audio is ever slightly a second off from the video. It's only really noticeable with Pleiades as his mouth is the only visible one when speaking, but let's just say that WE were acting like fools when it came to recording this one! March 23, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Jasmine Description: Ultra Podcast Z set up its first schedule in months and of course the first one of the set (where we take a look at the big March 2021 stories we missed during our themed episodes) conflicts with something on Nyaru's schedule so she forced to cancel at the literal last minute, thankfully Jasmine was around and we carried on. The big topic this time around was IZ*ONE's final concert and soon-to-be dissolution. We didn't have a lot of kind words for them and we went over the Produce 101 scandal fairly in-depth. Honestly, we could've talked about this the entire show, but we had other things to cover. We focused a lot on graduations and scandals, but we also talked a bit about the 20th Anniversary of the Gameboy Advance, Yua Mikami's new fashion line, and events like Comiket and the Olympics being canceled in Japan. (The latter of course not canceled at this time but that's only a matter of time) This was a really fun episode that had a structure that we haven't had in a long while, it's too bad that we had to make it a smaller two-person show in the eleventh hour. March 16, 2021 6:00 PM PST Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Janette Description: Ultra Podcast Z changed a little this week with the addition of a new mod for the live show so it's worth a brief mention that for the first time this "YouTube Version" is actually fairly unique from the version that was streamed live as it contains somewhat different visual elements and some of our references to the changing topics can't be seen here. Anyway, more on that in coming episodes but let's take a look at this one. This is the final episode in our "Quarantine Blues" series of podcasts. Not only has it been almost exactly a year since the beginning of the stay-at-home orders but we also made the promise that we'd return with "Episode VI" when those orders lift, and lift they have. It's been months since we've had an episode like this and they originally came out of the fact that we had a glut of hosts to draw from (since everyone was home) and we didn't really have anything to talk about since nothing was happening beyond event cancellations and topics that YouTube REALLY hated back then. While this one has a bit more form as we had an entire year of stuff to look back on, it's worth mentioning that it's a very loose episode that only had the barest of topics outlined, but it was still a fun episode to come back to and it was also a fun test on our new streaming format. March 9, 2021 6:00 PM PST Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Jasmine Kyuu Description: Ultra Podcast Z took a week off and we're back with four hosts! It's been a while since we've had two guests on and it would be for a special Pokémon night! We had some issues with the live stream but it's all here in one piece. Also, while we're on the topic of problems we had, there is a slight gap in the middle where we lost about a minute due to a rendering error and the audio was a little iffy throughout. We know that's a lot of negative stuff but this was actually a really fun episode! This marks Kyuu's first time on UPZ and she even dressed for the occasion! Her collection is pretty great and we had a lot of time going over that as we discussed our thoughts on the series and the franchise in general. With a franchise this big it was obvious that we'd have more than our share of opinions on it and there was definitely that in this show, but it's also refreshing to have a topic where everyone is 100% well-versed in the topic and is able to toss out a lot of knowledgeable asides. A lot of what we discussed was opinions though so we'd love to hear what you think about our views and stuff and maybe let us know what some of your Pokémon favorites are! February 23, 2021 6:00 PM PST Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Pleiades Description: Ultra Podcast Z has had a lot of "weird" themed episodes before but this one is one of the weirdest. It was all based around the theme of "Bad Advice Delivered Badly" (and yes, we know about the odd grammar in that phrase) due to a meeting Manuel had regarding starting a popular podcast. Seeing as we're a pretty home-y, low rent podcast with all sorts of issues (but we're doing our best!) we decided to run with this with some intentional "problems" and many others that popped up during the show that we didn't really intend for but went with the them really well. Basically we relied on our live audience to ask us for advice and we'd give it with an air of satire about it. The problem with that concept was that it required us to have a very large, active audience which isn't something that UPZ consistently has... We soldiered on though and filled in a lot of the dead space with random storytime, talks about anime, and even some examples of "bad advice" we've seen or have been given. If we ever do this style of show again (well, WHEN we do as we definitely will) we might gather up some topics from our audience beforehand to give advice to live, but then again that wouldn't be as much fun as going in completely unsure and cold... February 16, 2021 6:00 PM PST Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Hinacchi Description: Ultra Podcast Z didn't take a break this week for once! We had for this "Valentine's Day" episode planned to be BEFORE Valentine's Day but things kept getting pushed back so now it's AFTER Valentine's Day. That said, was it REALLY a Valentine's Day episode though? We talked about it briefly and did a nice recap, but we REALLY went off the deep end with talks of food, chocolate, travel, and all sorts of storytime nonsense. Part of this was due to the fact that we never actually opened the pre-written outline and rather than go at the first half by things we had written, we decided to be REALLY random and fill the entire first hour with a lot of nonsense that we hope is still watchable and enjoyable. The second half was a lot more structured though and even though we still didn't have the outline for the finer details, we still covered most of the topics we planned to. Basically there was a LOT of idol news in recent memory that we've missed over the weeks/months and that happened literally within days of the show. We covered Kozue from DANCEROID joining Dempagumi, how unique Dempagumi actually is in the idol scene, and then covered the current Sayuki Takagi scandal and talked yet again about the so-called "love ban". Lots to cover there and it was equally fun when we attempted to stick to a script. Anyhow, check it out and let us know what you think about what we covered!
