Ultra Podcast Z number 117 is all about celebrating A-to-J Connections Sixth Anniversary! A-to-J traditionally celebrates its anniversary on Thanksgiving, and seeing as this episode was closest to it, we decided to tackle it here. Tiffany joined as guest this week and in typical 2020 fashion we took a very chill approach to celebrating past and recent accomplishments. It was a chill time and while we did hit all the usual anniversary stuff (memories, the year in review, etc) it was done in a way where we realized that this is a year where our biggest accomplishment is that we made it to the other end of it. With that said, what a crazy year it's been as there have been a lot of changes from the start of 2020 to the end, both with us and within the scene we work in. Ultra Podcast Z is tired and decided to have one of our chill Random Topics/Storytime episodes that we have every so often. We actually opened it up to any topics viewers might have but filled out the 90+ minutes with LOTS of Storytime moments instead! As usual we used up some of our better topics in the pre-show but we still had a lot to talk about with maybe half the show being about Anime Convention Adventures! It was a little different than when we usually tell these stories as we had a lot more to talk about regarding the fact that some conventions in 2021 are also starting to cancel and we just went ham telling some stories/story details we never told before. After a big discussion on horchata and pupusas (and about a restaurant near Nyaru that MIGHT be a money laundering operation?) we went down the road that lead to "Titties Are Poggers", an ongoing inside joke between Manuel and Snakz that has now extended into UPZ and Nyaru! Some Dungeons & Dragons talk rounded things out (let us know if you want to see D&D content here btw!) with the usual amount of randomness throughout the entire show! While these episodes are often hit and miss, we felt this one was a lot of fun and much better than just skipping a week out of laziness! Ultra Podcast Z is back to it's regular schedule! Nyaru took charge of this week's episode and we were joined by JohnLovesAnime for a special episode dedicated to ENVtubers and the ENVtuber scene! A natural topic we discussed our first exposure to VTubers, the ENVtuber scene (referring to the English-speaking Vtuber scene), and all sorts of topics regarding the scene's evolution, current status, and how we think it might evolve in the future. There was a lot of randomness throughout though, like Manuel's appreciation for the live action "Dragonball Evolution" movie, and some talk of Nyaru's 2.5D... assets... We wrapped up with a lot of talk about ENVtubers in the future and how they might interact with anime conventions, or conventions in general, when they eventually become a thing again. Ultra Podcast Z is bringing the spoops! this is the LAST of our special Halloween UPZ episodes and, while we're sad to see the season come and go yet again, we look forward to moving back to a more regular schedule. This year we took a look at the scariest topic of all: The Year 2020! Pleiades joined us for this one (and yes, his camera DOES turn on towards the end!) and he actually wrote most of the outline for it, but we all experienced 2020 very similarly here in the US so we all had some things to say. Much like the year itself, the topics started somewhat light and we were shocked right away as to all that happened this year and the world-changing events that just kind of piled on top of each other to the point that they became quickly forgotten. We tried to not cover some of the more obvious, bigger topics like the pandemic and the protests that marked much of the year (and are still both very much ongoing) but we DID touch upon them so look forward to that. Also, once again like the year itself, things got much more serious as we got to more recent events and we had a HUGE deep dive into politics and voting. We'll repeat what we said live, go out and vote if you're an adult please. Well, there's much to be said but honestly just watch it and let us know some of your thoughts as this is quite the unusual episode for us. Ultra Podcast Z is bringing the spoops! We're nearing the end of our Halloween-themed shows and this one saw us doing yet another tier list! This series of streams started with a podcast dedicated to talking horror movies (featuring Snakz and Nyaru) and we joked then that maybe we should've made it into a tier list and seeing as there was one week still not properly planned out, we decided to do it! Originally seen as having completely different hosts (one of them being Nyaru) we decided on adding two new people to this one in the form of Jade and Geoff. Also, seeing as our recent Halloween Costume Tier List episode took a very long time to complete due to having five hosts (the most we've ever had btw) we decided to cap this one off at four, hence Nyaru's absence. That said, we still did manage to run this one into nearly four hours and we had a hell of a time ranking 40 of the biggest horror movies of all time! There are a lot of classics here but there are also a lot that we left off due to space and time considerations, so this will definitely be a topic that we return to next year, or perhaps even sooner! Anyhow, this one is a pretty good episode and if you look beyond the technical difficulties (Manuel's camera freezing and locking up for most of the stream and Molly's often harsh quality due to internet issues) there's a lot of fun to be had. Ultra Podcast Z is bringing the spoops! We're in the middle of our Halloween-themed shows and this one saw us returning to tier lists again! Last year we ranked some of our favorite trick-or-treating candy and this time we decided to rank our some of the most popular costumes one sees on Halloween. This is by no means a complete list as it would be close to a hundred items long (at LEAST!) but the list was compiled using articles and sales data showing what the most popular costumes of recent years were and what was anticipated as being the "hot" costumes for 2020. Furthermore, Manuel and Ren have both worked at stores that sold Halloween costumes and the like so there was that expertise tossed in as well. It took a little longer than we thought to rank all the costumes, but it was a lot of fun and we also took a look at some silly "sexy" costumes as well as some favorites of from Ren's time working as a scare actor at a local amusement park. Ultra Podcast Z is bringing the spoops! It's finally officially October and we're continuing our Halloween Schedule with an episode dedicated to spoopy games! Wesley (DarkWest) joined us for this one and as a fun little quirk, whenever there was a lull in the discussion Nyaru would read the Bee Movie script! That said, there wasn't really a lull as we covered a lot of material here from some older horror games (Friday The 13th for the NES for example) to newer stuff like P.T and Corpse Party's infamous "butter up my pooper" line. We also talked a lot about jump scares versus psychological horror games (looking at Five Nights at Freddy's and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem) among others and even took a stab at covering the .exe games and once again discussing the Tails Doll creepypasta from Sonic R. Lots more stuff was discussed with RPG Maker games, discussing whether or not these games are really "scary", and even covering/plugging some of our recent spoopy game streams happening this month. Ultra Podcast Z is starting the spoops! It's not quite October so we're easing into the season by covering the simplest of topics, horror movies! While we've touched upon this in year's past we've decided to dedicate a full episode to it and we still couldn't get out all the info we wanted! Seriously though we discussed everything from our earliest horror movie memories, what scares us about some of them, some of our favorites, and other randomness. Snakz joined us for this one and along with Nyaru it wasn't the most visual of episodes but there was a lot of discussion and fun to be had. Elsewhere we talked about found footage movies, the rise and fall of Asian horror movies in the West, and even a bit on ouija boards (an accidental topic!) and trust us guys, Nyaru is NOT CRAZY! All jokes aside, we're excited for the upcoming Halloween schedule and we can't wait to share it with you all! Ultra Podcast Z sees the return of Nyaruchuuu and a LOT of "Among Us" nonsense! Schedule conflicts made it so that this week's episode didn't have a guest co-host, but we continued on with the two topics of "Among Us" being an addicting game and the upcoming holidays, especially Halloween, on the horizon. After a bunch of randomness, intros, and updates, we finally got down to talking about "Among Us". Nyaru had recently participated in several collabs recently where she played the game and Manuel had played several over the recent weekend and A-to-J in general has been planning a lot of random "Among Us" streams! Well, this conversation turned into us actually playing with some of our viewers with Nyaru hosting first. After a couple games we realized that something was wrong with her lobby, so Manuel hosted and we had a few more participants! A lot of fun ensued with Nyaru killing Manuel IMMEDIATELY in the first game (though it was missed because of replying to something in the chat) and Molly killing a fan of hers in front of another player. After all that, we finally moved on to talk about Halloween and outlined some of the changes that 2020 is bringing to the holiday, as well as revealing some of our upcoming plans! Ultra Podcast Z temporarily went back to a standard podcast (read: Not a VTuber show) as Nyaru was not able to make it to this one, but we continued on with not just Ren, but also War-Ren! A quick-moving, chill episode, we filled the 90 minutes with all sorts of fun even if we didn't quite get to all the topics that we would've wished. We did cover a lot of our favorite board games from Horse-opoly (Get in the trailer!) to Candy Land, Ticket to Ride to Pretty Pretty Princess. We even had a minor bit of show and tell and made sure to cover some cool games that we have/would like to play at cons like Exploding Kittens, Sticky Cards, and The Resistance. Speaking of the latter, we also briefly discussed how board games can end friendships and, at least for none of us, it doesn't always come in the form of a Monopoly game! In the middle of all this we discussed the spoopiest board game of all, Ouija, and how we've actually tried to touch upon the game in our Halloween-themed streams both over the years and recently and the difficulty in finding people to participate in them. Looks like this crew might not be participating either! Anyhow, this is a fun one so be sure to dive in and get ready to experience VTuber nonsense again starting next week!
