This is Episode 144 and for those that don't know, a dozen dozens is called a "gross" so we ran with that last minute even though it was kind of a last minute topic shift. We actually had more "things that are gross" topics but pretty much did all storytime type things with us only covering the Crunchyroll x Sony buyout in the middle. We also touched on "High Guardian Spice" and we were going to talk a bit about "gross fandoms" but were sorta stopped before we got there. That and the Steak-ummm thing we awkward, as was the porn talk at the beginning, but that's what y'all come here for right? Gross stuff is gross and we talked a lot about Taco Bell giving you the shits, cleaning up poop in retail settings, and some of the grossest things we've done/been involved in. Speaking of that latter part, Warren joined us crazy randomly after about the hour mark as he wanted to share stories and he's in the chat where we run the show so BAM, last minute third host. We've been surviving as a duo for the past few weeks (mainly trying to rebuild the core of the show) but it was fun having a guest for the first time in ages. August 3, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Description: Ultra Podcast Z continues its attempt at revival with another "Shooting The Shit" style episode! This one was about television and was centered around the theme of being young, during the summer, and just having a TV as a friend and watching all sorts of nonsense, so we took that idea and ran with it! This could've easily have been a very thin episode in terms of content but we had a surprising amount of things to talk about and we only went off-topic a few times. We started with some "comfort" shows but only really covered Nyaru's with ER, but we quickly moved into children's shows and cartoons we loved in our youth. It was interesting how similar, and different, both Nyaru and Manuel's experiences with children's TV was and it was even more interesting how many times they still managed to bring up porn and other adult content that is more fitting for the F.A. Podcast. We had a lot of fun going over talk shows too, and honestly that could've been an entire topic for a podcast in and of itself. (There's an idea!) We somehow managed to bring up feet, feet fetishes, and foot drawing nonsense as we were closing out and yeah, another awesome episode wrapped! July 27, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Description: Ultra Podcast Z continues its attempt at revival with a "Shooting The Shit" style episode where we only had the vaguest idea of what we were going to talk about going into this one and relied on being able to riff on topics we picked out of thin air. It was a little shaky at times but we think we pulled it off! We were going to talk almost solely on TTRPGs (thing "Dungeons & Dragons" and the like) but we filled the first 30+ mins with a lot of randomness like a deep talk on "Perfect Blue" and yet MORE talk on "2 Girls 1 Cup", the latter meaning that we have now covered that on every single A-to-J live show. When we finally got around to talking TTRPGs we mainly talked about D&D and "Vampire: The Masquerade", the latter of which Nyaru plays with other VTubers and she actually whipped out the model of her VTM character for us a bit! This topic was a lot of fun and maybe we should've relied more heavily on it as opposed to that intro, but that just adds to the random aspect of what UPZ has turned into recently. There's a lot of fun to be had here and hopefully you'll all watch our various TTRPG nonsense with Nyaru's VTM streams and A-to-J's "Drink Talk Roll" D&D streams! We also learned randomly that Nyaru never turns off her Nintendo Switch so be sure to roast her about that! July 20, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Description: Ultra Podcast Z has some interesting issues on this one when it came to recording. It's come to our attention that the recorded version suffers from a REALLY bad framerate and we plan to fix that immediately for the next episode. Elsewhere, we forgot to hit record on this one so we went with the backup source for it, but it was a rather fun episode where we were all on point, something that has been happening more and more lately tbh! A-to-J has a complicated set of "anniversaries" but for the sake of brevity all you need to know is that the "first" one is on July 22 and this episode was a sort of look back at those seven years. We've done this sort of thing many times before but this time it was with a focus on other outlets that were around at our start, have collaborated with us in the past, and where they are now. It's sad that the vast majority of them are no longer around as we had a lot of friends drop out of the scene because of it. We also talked about other sites we used to like that are now gone and basically how the internet is a very different place than it was seven years ago. Elsewhere we talked about the Steam Deck, Beastars, anime musicals, and the whole Oyamada Keigo/Cornelius Olympics scandal that's been going on. July 13, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Badman JD Description: Ultra Podcast Z had another of our infamous "cursed episodes" as this was very nearly cancelled but we decided to soldier on, THEN all sorts of technical issues meant that we started a bit late and a lot of other random nonsense kept this episode from being up to par in general (also a nice place to mention that we're aware that it isn't the best quality and the audio does slowly drift out of sync from the video as the show goes on, but we did our best from the sources we had) but once again we're soldiering on. The show itself was quite fun and featured JD in a speaking role replacing Hinacchi who was supposed to be on. Originally we were going to focus far more on gaming and related topics but we decided to kind of float this one all over the place talking about such randomness as the joy of annoying cosplayers at cons and how GACKT recently became an anti-vaxxer. More on topic we talked about a bunch of games we're looking forward to and things we're playing now. Namely we mentioned a "sexy Dark Souls" game with "She Will Punish You" and updated everyone on the Cannibal Holocaust game we mentioned over a year ago now titled "Borneo: A Jungle Nightmare". All the technical stuff aside, this was actually a very fun, on point episode and we just wish that everything visually and audio-wise followed suit. There's always next week though. July 6, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Description: Ultra Podcast Z is continuing its onward and upwards trend with an episode fully dedicated to... nonsense! Actually, we had two big tentpole discussions here that bookended the episode: AX Lite Recap, and Callina/Sarah in Big Brother Season 23. We had a lot to say about the former as it was an odd con to experience as the US is opening up and pretty much cemented online cons as a thing that, while perhaps here to stay on a small scale, will always be a relic of the highest points of pandemic lockdown. After we went over the pros and cons of AX Lite we tackled some random topics like the rise and fall of the "family" Vin Diesel memes, a new animated Night of The Living Dead movie, upcoming anime, and the new Nintendo Switch. Nonsense done with, we moved onto what was probably the biggest topic of the night: Callina/Sarah on Big Brother Season 23. Basically, there is a new contestant on the long-running reality show that comes from the overseas idol world and we discussed both this as news, and about the arguments that are currently going on online, within the overseas idol scene and without, regarding Callina's old content which has mostly been scrubbed from the internet. This was an interesting discussion and the centerpiece of this UPZ episode, but you can of course let us know if you agree or disagree with our views on this complicated topic. June 29, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Pleiades Description: Ultra Podcast Z took an accidental week off but came back with a pretty random episode featuring Pleiades! We had a million little topics to cover on this one but it was always envisioned as a riffing episode with Pleiades without as much form as we usually try for in these kind of things. That said we managed to at least MENTION every small news topic that we wanted from the Tamagotchi Watch to the new Final Fantasy IX animated show. We also had deeper dives into the new (and old) iCarly show and how the internet has changed over the decade it's been on and the death of John McAfee. These are all very different topics from each other and if it seems random well, that's because it is. With that said we tried to keep it interesting and we think we did that. Also now is the time to mention that this video is a mashup of both the live stream version (with JD's active topic changes on the lower left) and Manuel's recording (which had wonky audio this time around) so bear with it as it can get a little rough at times though we think it's still very watchable. There was more covered here but we'd be killing some of the surprises if we just tossed it all in the description, so check it out! June 15, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru J.D. Description: Ultra Podcast Z SORT OF had another two-person show but this one is a bit different. J.D., who also works as our Mod/Secret Host, actually was the one who wrote the outline to this show and started out in his usual fashion as a disembodied voice that only we can hear to help us along with the show (though sometimes these bits are heard over here on YouTube) but about a third in he decided to just jump on and talk freely with us about these topics. The problem is that he forgot to turn on his mic so the live show (which was surprisingly active for what we're about to describe) was actually full of awkward pauses where we stopped to let J.D. talk about things that only we could hear. This wasn't caught until the very end of the show so we're going to have to live with it as it stands. In other news we had decided to mix up versions of the podcast for the YouTube version but that didn't happen this time as we screwed up and uploaded this unedited recording instead. For the sake of just going with it we're just going to keep this upload as is so everyone on YouTube gets a version where you can HEAR J.D. but visually you'd still think we were a two-person show. Enough of that though, we talked E3 here, discovered that Bill Gates might be Nyaru's dad, completely covered the outline in a nice timeframe, and talked a LOT about games for a nice change. June 8, 2021 7:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Description: Ultra Podcast Z had another two person show and this time around we decided to cover some news & other summer nonsense. We started with some talk about the BTS meal and the fact that the Among Us chicken nugget auction was not a hoax or a meme, but something that sold for just under one hundred thousand dollars, which is insane and silly af. We then moved into some quick topics we had lined up like some AKB48 related news (That TakaMina cookbook!), and other stuff like live action adaptation updates and the upcoming Tamagotchi anniversary. We were all over the place by this point in the live show and were working our way to come back to KPop with a discussion on how BLACKPINK fans had gotten NAMEWEE's latest MV taken down and we never quite got there. We DID watch a random af Peppa Pig video though and probably would've gotten back on track if not for the fact that the news of Kiryu Coco's graduation come through while we were live. This threw everything for a loop and Nyaru was a hot mess until we decided to wrap it up. We had actually started an hour later at the very last minute this week and ending earlier wasn't exactly a bad idea, but it did mean we didn't cover everything we wanted and what we did we covered a bit odd. That said hopefully there is something enjoyable here and we're going to come back far more focused next week when we talk about all the E3 news and maybe take that look at the NAMEWEE story! May 25, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Description: Ultra Podcast Z has a smaller show to close out May, and welcome in Summer, as we chose to not go with a third co-host this time around. We also were down to just one host for a long period as Nyaru had a lot of technical difficulties trying to get her Hot Tub setup to work. Yes, you heard that right, there was a lot of random VTuber Hot Tub nonsense in this one in between our random ramblings! Speaking of those ramblings, we talked about Kentaro Miura's passing (well that was mainly Manuel as this was during Nyaru's disappearance), a lot of random AKB stuff, and more on the return of anime conventions. Now, that latter topic would take up half the show but it was in a very different way than how we've covered it over the past year. Seeing how this is Fanime weekend (read: Memorial Day weekend) the sting of missing cons was hard and we discussed going back to the many that are popping up as the country opens up fully. Surprisingly lenient was Manuel who seemed ready to jump to Texas to hit up IkkiCon which was happening that weekend. Cooler heads prevailed but there was a much more open discussion on upcoming conventions and, even though it was decided that cons probably won't REALLY be safe until 2022, you'll soon get your chance to probably see us in person again!
