This is the last episode of our special Halloween episodes and we actually had another themed episode with a guest lined up but it had to be scrapped at the eleventh hour when said guest dropped out. So Game Night it is! We had talked about making the final episode of every month a Community Game Night just to change things up a bit and we're accidentally on track to do just that. We ended September with one, ending October with one, and just to give everyone a bit of spoilers, we're going to end November with one. We didn't cover any nonsense at all this time around and jumped right into the games once we went live. This one featured a lot of the same people who were present in the first one we did but saw Dr. Wes taking the place of Callie. There was a lot of randomness here and we played some of the classics from last time, "Trivia Murder Party" and "Fibbage", and tried "Monster Seeking Monster" (which we called "Discord Simulator") this time around which seemed somewhat fitting even if it was a little awkward at times. Hopefully this is something everyone is having fun with and content you'll all enjoy as it was definitely fun to produce and provides the occasional break here and there. That said we're not sure if this will be a monthly thing, but only time will tell on that front. For now, enjoy the spoopiness and the silliness that fill out this one! October 19, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Kyuu Description: Ultra Podcast Z is hitting up Halloween! It's the third of our special Halloween episodes and this one is a redux of sort and we decided to talk "Internet Spoops" with Kyuu joining us! This was probably the first topic we had scheduled for this Halloween setup but it was a little shaky at the start as we had only the most nebulous of ideas of what we wanted to talk about and we were sadly a little low energy at the start before we started and it took about half the show to get us really into the swing of things. We say that but other times the show is quite enjoyable just that the strains of doing the show live sometimes add extra stress. Anyway, the topics were fun and all over the place and while we couldn't think up all the creepypasta stuff we wanted to on the fly (which ironically is the reason for the redux as the first time we did this that was ALL we did) we had a lot of fun talking about dark web bs and other YouTubers "creepy" content. The show took a weird twist at the end as we learned about Chris Ayres death in real time and we struggled to get back on track to wrap the show up, but that is again an element of a live show. October 12, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Photaku Haro JD (Mod) Description: Ultra Podcast Z is hitting up Halloween and fulfilling an episode idea we've had since our very first Halloween Episode lineup in 2018! We watched the original "Night of The Living Dead" and provided live commentary and more! There was a bit of technical difficulties when it came to this one, so let's address those first. For technical reasons we had two versions of the movie playing: the one for the stream and the one for the hosts. This would lead to the hosts being ahead of the stream version but we made the most of it and it isn't that bad we feel. ALSO, we filmed everyone's cameras separately so technically there is a version of this stream where you can see our reactions, our occasional drinking, and even Photaku's Barry cosplay, but it proved too much to include in this version due to time so maybe that'll be a later release or something for patrons. Some of this footage IS in the brief intro though so yeah. Anyway, we had Haro and Photaku on this one and both Haro and Nyaru hadn't seen this movie before so it was a fun watch all around. Honestly, this could've gone so badly (especially taking into account the last minute technical difficulties) but it proved to be a lot of fun and we had a decent audience for the watchalong. Also, the zombos got Nyaru at the end as her power went out in the final minutes! Anyway, let us know what you think about this and also feel free to toss future Halloween ideas at us! October 5, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Dr. Wes JD (Mod) Description: Ultra Podcast Z is hitting up Halloween! It's the first of our special spoopy episodes and we're talking Horror Movie Remakes! These special spoopy episodes are always a lot of fun and we look forward to them and make sure to never skip a week and this is the year that we decided to tackle some topics that have been floating around in years past but we never got around to doing. This was originally thought to be a tier list but seeing as we kinda relied on doing those when we were lazy, we decided to just have it as an open discussion and this is probably for the best as it gave us time to talk about things and still give us space to be random when we felt like it. Wes joined us for this one and there are definitely movies that we accidentally skipped but we covered most of the heavy hitters here and that was largely the goal to begin with. We actually managed to get some good recommendations out of this and didn't just tear apart all the remakes as you might have expected us to do so be sure to let us know what you think about what we had to say about them and let us know your thoughts on some horror movie remakes, especially ones we didn't cover here! Elsewhere we talked about idol graduations, Sora in Smash Bros., and some nonsense about Whole Foods, so keep an eye out for that stuff too! September 28, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Photaku JD (Off Screen) Description: Ultra Podcast Z hits 150 episodes and Nyaru is nowhere to be found! We hit yet another milestone but rather than make a big deal about it (we've had a LOT of "anniversary"-type episodes recently and have at least one more coming up) we decided to tackle a topic we surprisingly don't cover much: anime, namely shorter anime series. The premise for this started with discussions about how Manuel doesn't watch much anime and how we'd compile lists for people who want to watch anime but probably don't want to invest days into shows like One Piece, Naruto, etc. Photaku joined us again this week in his first proper episode appearance (not a tier list or game night) and after a rather long discussion about Genshin Impact and more, we got into our lists. This episode features a few more edits than one usually sees in a UPZ so this truly is a "YouTube Version" but we touched on a lot of animes and it was probably for the best that there were only three of us on this one as we would've got even less out probably. There's a lot of suggestions here in a lot of different genres so let us know what you think about our choices, give us some of your own, and maybe we'll cover this topic in a future episode as we definitely left a lot of ones we wanted to discuss off the table. September 21, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Players: Manuel Nyaru JD Molly Callie Photaku AUDIENCE! Description: Ultra Podcast Z has its first community game night! Our Mod, JD, has been suggesting this for a while now but it took last week's Anniversary Episode for Nyaru to yell and make it an actual thing this week. We went simple with Jackbox Party Packs and had a few games in mind that we played with a lot of people both who can be heard on the show and who were playing as the audience. Real fast we should mention that this one is rather long, it has a somewhat slow start, and we had some weirdness with the game audio on the first game (as in there wasn't any audio lol) so bear with that when watching. That said this episode featured Manuel, Nyaru, and JD as usual (though Nyaru dipped around 90 mins in and never came back) and also saw Molly, Callie, Photaku, and Weston play along as well, the latter not on voice though. There's a lot of randomness here and a lot of fun stories that come along with the gameplay and where else can you see everyone mess up "Survive The Internet" EVERY TIME?!?! We're thinking about making this a regular thing, perhaps final Tuesday of the month or something, so let us know if that's something you'd be interested in seeing. Anyway, this is big departure for UPZ but change is good and this was one of our most active episodes so one can't exactly complain! September 14, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Description: Ultra Podcast Z celebrates its Fourth Anniversary in a rather low-key way, but we missed the chance of making the Fast Food Tier List Redux the anniversary so it is what it is! That said this was a fun episode where we decided to add two segments that were basically "borrowed" from the Cinemassacre Podcast: "What Are We Watching" and "Viewer Q&A". The first one lead us into some deviations as Nyaru talked more about ER but then talked about HannahTheHorrible and her recent video on the "Evilstick". Manuel talked "Baccano" which was recently watched and there was something of a main topic discussion that eventually lead into the Q&A part though since we didn't have any of them active, we just looked up some from a list online. That said if you have any questions you want us to answer, from any topic, then be sure to toss them into the comments below! Anyway, the main topic regarding our Anniversary was a bit more focused though we ran the gamut of reminiscing of the podcast's changes, its ups and downs, the fact that it's nearly as old as A-to-J itself, and how much older we all are. All that mildly depressing stuff aside we tossed around some ideas for future episodes that we plan to implement so please stay tuned for more UPZ (possibly rebranded!) goodness in the future! August 31, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Nyaru Description: Ultra Podcast Z gets something of a new look on this episode and we're all for it! The thumbnail is a bit of a lie but we plan on changing those starting at 150 and might retroactively do that later.... BUT internet challenges! (Oh yeah, we also ditched the "Knuckles" in the branding) This was a fun topic that we kind of breezed through in spite of it being something that we brought to the topic table really last minute. The trick with UPZ is picking a topic that will hopefully retain relevancy until the show actually happens which we tried to do here but the whole "milk crate challenge" trend had run its course (rightfully so) by the time we tackled it. That wasn't too important though as apparently Nyaru and JD were not familiar with it as it was mainly a TikTok thing so we had a lot more time to fill talking about other "challenges" like the ice bucket challenge, the Harlem Shake, and more. A lot can be said as to what MAKES something a challenge on the internet and perhaps that's a topic we'll tackle another day, what also needed tackling this show was Nyaru, who was present and lively but had some tech issues throughout. August 24, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Badman Description: Ultra Podcast Z continues our string of episodes and this one is one of those "lucky" ones that would've probably been cancelled in an alternate universe as it originally was going to just be a Manuel & Nyaru episode but Warren had such strong opinions on the topic (which was "overrated anime", specifically he cared about Evangelion) that we decided to have him on. About an hour before the show though Nyaru had to dip out due to illness so we went on as a last-minute accidental duo. This made the show a lot more random as there were a couple segments that required Nyaru's presence but we soldiered on and the show was quite fun and had some of the new elements we've been trying to incorporate for a while now, such as on-screen chat. Besides a long rant about Evangelion, mostly from Warren, there was a lot of stuff here such as Manuel going on a bit too much on the failings of English dubs, thoughts on the first looks at both Netflix's "Cowboy Bebop" and "Spiderman: No Way Home", and a lot of other random topics. A very loose show, but a fun one that continues our streak and we can't wait to get back on track when Nyaru returns next week! August 17, 2021 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Janette Photaku Badman Description: Ultra Podcast Z goes back to that old standby that has gotten us through a weeks where we couldn't be bothered to come up with a proper topic: Tier Lists! We actually decided to do a Fast Food Tier List Redux (the original was about two years ago in the pre-Nyaru days) because Nyaru had done one recently and it was one of our first tier lists that could easily see different results with different co-hosts. Speaking of different co-hosts we had them this time around! Nyaru wasn't around, another reason for the tier list btw, but replacing her was Janette (who hasn't been on since around the start of the pandemic), Josh AKA "Photaku" (who is a first timer but an old friend), and Warren AKA "Badman" (who was actually SORT OF a replacement for Nestor who was supposed to be on). There's not too much to say in terms of lead up to this one except that there was a lot more arguing this time, a lot more restaurants, and we had JD, our mod, breaking up ties and making some executive decisions here and there along the way. Also, we speed up about a third of the way in, but this is the norm in these kind of shows as we always underestimate how much we have to say about each tier list item.
