Originally supposed to have featured both Teepu (who was STILL going to show up during the show but never did) and three hosts who had all seen the movie (Teepu had though RIP) but we still had a lot to talk about! We opened with random Retail Recap Nonsense and some recent Idol Graduations just as a nice warm up before we dived into it. We covered all things Sonic in somewhat of a haphazard way, but we discussed the new movie, the old movie, the TV shows, the games, and the memes. We even decided to bring furries into the mix and discussed Rainfurrest (which we misspelled on the podcast proper... RIP) and our hopes to have a furry podcast soon! As such, it can be a little random and might not be for all of our normal viewers, but we had a lot of fun here and we think you will too! Besides our games of Skribblio (best of three btw!) we discussed things like our upcoming Valentine's Day plans, "Magibon" and how the early internet was basically one big mistake, Paul Reubens' odd case of being caught "helping himself" in an adult theater, and whether all the "bad" live action adaptations are REALLY bad or not. "kitty" themed idol group "Make It"! With some randomness about our weekend that involved a projectile-vomiting Tinkerbell Between all this, we also discussed how to travel safely in Shinjuku, so you're welcome in advance! . January 28, 2020 7:00 PM PST Hosts: Manuel Konaru Callie Description: Ultra Podcast Z is back and so is Konaru! She's back from Japan only missing the first episode of the year! Also returning is Callie who was on quite a few times in the past as well! This one had a lot of randomness all around and started with us talking about Sakamichi and AKS nonsense, the Tokyo Love Story remake and streaming services in Japan, and the big topic of the night, New and Upcoming Anime & Gaming releases for 2020! We covered a lot of titles in both categories but had a lot of fun talking about the Oshi to Budokan anime, "22/7 (Nanabun no Nijyuuni)", Interspecies Reviewers, Beastars, and LOTS more! Gaming was mostly dominated by talk of Animal Crossing: New Horizons but we also talked about titles like the Final Fantasy VII Remake, Breath of The Wild 2, and more! January 22, 2020 7:00 PM PST Hosts: Manuel Jasmine Hinacchi Description: Ultra Podcast Z is back! This is the first episode of the new year and the new decade! Konaru is currently out of the country and filling in for her directly is Jasmine and we were also joined by Hinacchi! This rather chill episode took a look at some of the stories we covered last year which have updates (namely the X1 and IZ*ONE voting scandals) and some recent rumblings of a nameless idol being busted for doing drugs. From there we took a deep dive at the mess that is AKS's change to "Vernalossom" and what that means for the idol world at large. We then jumped to the big topic of the night which was "Idols In The Rawring 20s" and what some of our thoughts and predictions are going into the new decade. We discussed everything from the changing idol standards, the lessening of JASRAC nonsense, and whether the scene will grow more overseas or pretty much stay as it is. December 17, 2019 7:00 PM PST Hosts: Manuel Konaru Callie Molly Description: Ultra Podcast Z is closing out the year (and the decade!) with a special episode where we take a look at some of the biggest stories of the year that we didn't cover on the podcast even though we discussed them a lot internally, and sometimes even in the offshoots of the show. Joining us to take on four HUGE topics this time around are Callie (who has been on the most times in 2019 even though we barely met her recently!) and Molly. We covered four crazy big topics and probably were a little too ambitious in squeezing them into the show. The four topics were the Vic Mignogna Scandal, the ProJared Scandal, The Produce 101 Vote Rigging Scandal, and the recent "H3H3 Is Over Party" Scandal going on rather recently. Some topics got a lot more time and we still had some time for our off-topic remarks and anecdotes so be sure to check out our hot takes on somewhat cold topics! This second episode is a sort of sister episode to last week's on J-Pop as we took a deep dive into Visual Kei! No Konaru this time around and we were joined by two guest hosts: Dangelo & Racheal! We discussed how we got into VK and took a nice hard look at how the scene has either changed or stayed the same over the years. Besides discussing changes and more, we also discussed things that we feel helped bring the scene to its current state and what we think about future growth. Beyond all this we also tackled some controversial topics such as the eternal "Is Visual Kei Dead?" question as well as the current "genre" of visual kei. Description: Ultra Podcast Z is closing out the year with a series of episodes looking back on the past ten years! This first episode sees the return of Max (melancholiaah) as guest host and we discussed the changes in J-Pop over the past ten years. First though, we had a nice discussion on how being a meme several times over is like as Max recently hit meme status again with her "Toad Sings" series. Along with this were some serious takes on how the scene has changed and how our own listening habits have also, as well as how groups like Dempagumi.inc, BiS, Momoiro Clover, and BABYMETAL have changed the scene. There was also a deep dive into the effect KPop has had on the idol/J-Pop field and more on what it makes being a fan of JPop in 2019 and beyond. It wasn't all fun and games and on topic though as these kind of things always go, we had a lot of fun discussing Kidz Bop and more! We're nearing the big FIFTH ANNIVERSARY of A-to-J Connections so we decided to mark this return with a fun look back at those five years! This podcast was originally going to have five people, but Tiffany and Molly (who have been seen on past UPZ episodes) ultimately didn't make it. We did move along though and covered a lot of A-to-J history, some of our best and worst moments, and even some behind the scenes stuff that we've never shared publicly before! This was a fun episode and if you've ever wanted to get a look at how things go away from the public eye, or if you just want to sit down for a long "storytime" type episode, then be sure to check this one out!
