Photaku joined us this week as we tackled some interesting topics that mainly had to do with the Switch (upcoming Nintendo Direct and new sales records) and Hogwart's Legacy. The latter topic doesn't need any introduction as the game's release, and the reaction to it, has taken over just about every corner of the internet. We're not here to change anyone's mind, but we have our views and they were all laid out here. Elsewhere we talked about Sally Amaki voicing in both English & Japanese, the passing of the creator of the first known AMV, Anime Expo selling out of its first line of badges, and even managed to talk a lot about anime, which isn't something we do a lot on the show. There was a lot of randomness in between as well and it was a lot of fun all things considered. A more structured episode where we had a lot of topics lined up unlike the more freeform episodes that kicked off 2023, so let's just carry on from here! January 31, 2023 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Hinacchi Description: Ultra Podcast Z is getting a little bit of a makeover as these longer descriptions are only going to be on the site from here on out. If you watch on the site... well, comment below or something to let us know if we should keep writing these! Anyway, Hinacchi was set to be on this one and was about thirty minutes late but rather than start late we decided to just go on normally and kill time until she showed up. We talked Fire Emblem, streaming, and other recent news stuff before she dropped in and then we talked all sorts of update stuff, anime cons we want to go to, Hina's maid/idol activities, her OnlyFans and more. It was a pretty random episode as we DID have some semblance of topics but we were kind of at a loss due to the late start. There was a very zoom-y cat though just out of frame so there's that! It was a fun episode though like always and there's a lot of hot takes and topics that you might have an opinion on, and we'd love to hear it! January 25, 2023 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Snakz Description: Ultra Podcast Z had a bit of shakiness as there were cons, sickness, and all-around cancellations that caused our return to happen a lot later than we would have hoped. Also, once we were ready to return a last minute concert made it that we were going to have to host this episode on a Wednesday instead of a Tuesday, which would normally be our gaming stream... but those are still awaiting their return too. It's a very odd situation that only effects us and the tens of people that watch, but an odd situation nonetheless. Snakz joined here as our original idea was to discuss ALA, recent cons, and some upcoming concerts and events for the year. We definitely did the first one but maybe lost the plot for a bit before coming back to randomness and discussing cons and events later this year. We did talk a bit about concerts here and there but a lot of our storytime might be lost to people who aren't regular viewers as there are some bits that lack context if you're just dropping in randomly. Sorry about that but episodes after long breaks usually have an odd feel to them where everyone is trying to get back into the groove of things, and this one is no exception. December 21, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Photaku Description: Ultra Podcast Z took place on a Wednesday for the first time in years as we really wanted to give this episode another chance and it turns out that third time really is the charm! We originally going to close the year out with three episodes right up until Christmas Eve week, but things went a little wonky as Josh, who ultimately hosted this one, was unavailable and then Hinacchi, who was supposed to be on the final, got sick... it was a rough time and it seemed like we'd just do what we could to close the year. Then Manuel lost power on the night of the final and we at first decided to just close the year off early until deciding to maybe give it one last go on a Wednesday since our normal Wed. stream was delayed also this week. All, this nonsense aside we brought the show together and managed to cover the topic we initially wanted to cover with Photaku (Josh) that we weren't able to last week! We had written out several "big" topics in 2022 that we either didn't cover properly on the show throughout the year, or covered very casually. We only really got to like three of these topics but we touched upon some others quickly at the beginning and the end. If you want to hear us talk about Elon Musk, AI art, and some nonsense surrounding Anime Los Angeles and other recent SoCal cons, then check this one out! December 6, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Tiffany Description: Ultra Podcast Z is back to some regular scheduling, and our end-of-year episodes. This is always a weird time for us as we have the anniversary, the holidays (which we tend to never have time to REALLY cover), and end-of-year/look forward to next year stuff to talk about. As we mentioned on the last episode where we had Snakz on, we had Tiffany on this one to look back at 2022 and to talk a bit about our anniversary. It was fun having her on as she hasn't been on streams since around 2020. The core of this episode was supposed to be discussing what it's like going to events and conventions in 2022, arguably the first full year where the "panini" is considered "over". All that is arguable, but the fact of it is that we are all definitely going to events and those events are quite different than they were pre-2020. We definitely had a lot to say about this, especially Tiffany who experienced performing at conventions in 2022 and even unfortunately got sick in the middle of the year, but we didn't cover the topic as fully as we probably could've. That's what you sometimes get with UPZ though right? There was a lot of randomness at the beginning and the end, but also to be expected, but it was a fun episode and we're in the holiday season so let's just continue with the regularity as it is. Next week we're going to cover some of the hot topics we didn't cover in the main body of episodes, which we also sorta teased at the end of this one, and for the first time in a long while, it looks like we're going to have episodes right up until Christmas before taking a break until after New Year's. November 29, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Snakz Description: Ultra Podcast Z took a bit of a break for Thanksgiving but did you all know that that marks A-to-J's official anniversary? We sort of have two as A-to-J officially formed in July 2014 but the site itself didn't go live until Thanksgiving 2014 so we consider that the anniversary, doubly so since it's somewhat of a floating one which goes well with the shakiness of when things "began". For this trip down memory lane we brought on Snakz who discussed a lot of the early days and gave a bit of insight on the various stages of A-to-J and how things have changed over the years. It's insane to think that we've all been at this for nearly a decade and that just about all the people who were around at Day One are still here now. People have come and gone since then, but the core team has shockingly remained mostly unchanged. Snakz was an early member, to the point that his "First Generation" status became something of a meme withing A-to-J itself as he kind of just did random things, or orbited around us, for many years. That's not really the case the past few years though as he takes part in a lot of streams now and also is panelist on one of our newer panels. Anyhow, there's a lot we could've talked about but we had a lot of fun talking about past stuff here and many of the stories we told were ones that we either have never talked about publicly, or are ones that we rarely cover. November 15, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Badman Description: Ultra Podcast Z is getting ready to wrap up the year and we have a few more episodes before the normal end of year stuff. This episode's idea came from two short segments from the Wednesday "A-to-J Adventure" streams, which in turn came from a Punk Rock MBA video, where we talked about albums we considered "no skip albums", meaning that every song is a banger, or at least worth listening to. It was a bit different this time around as we also added bits on albums that are ALMOST no skip albums and on albums that might've been no skips if we were making this list years ago. As far as our album picks go though, they are all over the place and I guess that can be expected due to all our different music tastes. This was a fun episode that flew by and we weren't even able to cover all the things we wanted to via the notes we made before the show, so maybe we'll tackle this again in 2023 with different co-hosts. November 8, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Badman Description: Ultra Podcast Z is finally over the convention stuff that took us by surprise the last few weeks and we came back after the spoopy season to come back around for our second take on the recent fantasy TV shows that debuted this year: "Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power" and "House of The Dragon". Both are prequel series and we had a LOT to say about them before and just as much to say about them now that they have both wrapped. It's kind of clear which one we preferred, but we tried to take our critique of "Rings of Power" in totally different directions than most people online have. You can't really fight it that one of the shows was far more put together than the other, no matter if one of them started filming during the 2020 lockdowns. Anyhow, there are a lot of hot takes and a LOT of spoilers throughout but check it out and maybe we'll do this again next year when the second season drops but maybe with a bit more form to the episode itself. Also, we are nearing A-to-J's anniversary, and the end of the year, so keep watchin to see us wrap up 2022. Will Nyaru will return? We shall see! October 25, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Photaku DarkWest Description: Ultra Podcast Z has had a shaky Halloween series this year, mainly due to a couple conventions that take place at the end of the month so planning was a bit off this time. We always planned to have a Tier List and a Watch-Along though and we were DETERMINED to fulfill those two scheduled shows! First off, it must be said that this episode has a FEW sound issues as we (the hosts) aren't quite as loud as we probably should be compared to the movie, but due to the nature of the stream, there isn't much we can do about it at the end. Also, this was done fairly last minute, despite the planning, and took place in a very busy time for everyone involved. Nyaru was still missing but the original co-hosts were not available this day (We originally wanted to recreate the "Night of The Living Dead" host crew from last year.) but we did our best. Also, the chat was a little cursed with how dead it was, so we covered it up in YouTube so it wouldn't be too distracting. It was still a lot of fun with Photaku and Weston joining us and we really enjoyed this movie even though it was VERY random at times and not quite what we were expecting even though we were very familiar with it. It's still crazy that this movie was filmed in a weekend and just as crazy that Roger Corman never cared enough to copyright it so he would get nothing from the eventual musical masterpiece this turned into. October 18, 2022 6:00 PM PDT Hosts: Manuel Fangy Description: Ultra Podcast Z still hasn't seen Nyaru return but we had another VTuber guest this time around in the form of Fangy! We love doing tier lists in general and we always do at least ONE for our Halloween streams so it only made sense that we plan one out this year. We originally were going to have a Halloween Candy Redux, but we decided to do a Cryptid Tier List since that's actually an idea that's been on our backburner for a few years now and we had the perfect co-host in mind for this one! What's interesting is that we had a lot of trouble finding (and even creating) our own tier list in the typical way so at the last minute, like literally right before we went live, we decided that we were going to do it live in the purest sense. That means that we were going to open up a Paint document and DRAW the tier list as we went along. I say "we" but in fact all the drawing was done by JD, our mod, so be sure to give him a round of applause for this. Also, be sure to give Manuel a round of applause as he had a headache for much of this show and it was quite the effort to get through. All in all, this was a really fun, crazy unique episode the kind that we haven't seen in a bit so check it out and let us know what you think of our list! I guess we'll save that candy redux one for next year! Keep watching in October though as we have more Halloween nonsense planned!
