In 2017 an anime adaptation of Wakabayashi Toshiya's 2014 manga “Tsurezure Children” released on July 4th. (Which was also the last day of Anime Expo 2017.) This anime gave the anime community new memes to create as well as new feelings to explore towards their loved ones from the new popular couple Masafumi Akagi and Ryouko Kaji. Join me in this review about a romantic comedy at a Japanese high school where the plot of the anime is to show how hard it is to say “I love you” at an age where love is a new and blooming concept. Cons:Let’s take a quickstep back from this anime and discuss some short cons. 1. There is basically no plot to this anime: Your simple slice of life romcom. Nowadays most shonen romcom anime have a big reveal, big secrets, or overarching story to compliment its story. This anime lightly touches on how all the students know each other but that is about as far as plot goes. Although this does not apply to everyone. 2. Some relationships are vague: Some of the relationships that are shown either do not develop enough for you to care or they fail to give a clear understanding as to why said characters have fallen in love with one another. 3. Concepts might be a little difficult to understand: There are not many times this happens but because Japanese can be difficult at times to translate into a dubbed anime, there are a few rough translations at points that just might not make sense in other languages. Pros:This anime has so many highlights I can spend all day talking about it but I will limit myself to three. 1. Waifus and Husbandos GALORE: This anime has over SIX COUPLES to take a look at. Adding this to the anime does help since it gives anime fans more than just one couple and their friends to pick from and admire. My personal favorite couple is hands down Masafumi Akagi and Kaji Ryouko. The dynamic these two have is comical, yet disturbing, in all the right places. 2. When it’s funny, IT’S FUNNY: This anime has its own way of making your sides burst like glass. Whether it's your mom walking in on you while you're on top of your girlfriend or when a guy LITERALLY looks so good girls cannot catch him which prompts him to state: “You grabbed my afterimage my beautiful little dove”. When the comedy hits, it hits you hard. 3. We all need love quotes in our life: This anime has created a community of people grabbing quotes from it and sending it to loved ones. My personal favorite involving my favorite couple Kaji and Akagi is: “I care about what is on in the inside more than i do about the outside of a person”. The community seems to be in unanimous agreement that these two are the best couple of the anime. Overall Rating:Although this anime is not like “好きっていいなよ” (Say “I Love You”) or any other popular shonen romantic anime, this anime does stand out from the rest and has made an impact since its launch in July. The plot may be non-existent and some couples make no sense and at times seem useless, I do give this anime a solid: B+ It’s comedy and the synergy with its universe, including the amount of characters it has to develop, outweigh the cons. Whether you’re laughing at a couple for a mistake, or admiring another couple for their emotional connection and communication, this is definitely an anime you don't want to miss. If you ever see it available from any of your anime providers be sure to give it a watch, I promise you will not be disappointed!
