Publisher and pioneering manga and anime media brand TOKYOPOP recently announced that it has licensed the official Alien Stage Art Book based on the hit sci-fi animated web series by South Korean creators.

Alien Stage presents a dystopian future where human contestants are raised as pets by aliens and forced to compete against each other in a singing competition. The loser of each round of the competition is killed — usually onstage and in front of the winner — after their loss. The dramatic setup of the series introduces elements of tragic romance, as the main characters have all known each other since they were children and harbor secret feelings for one another.

The single is the theme song for the animated feature film The Rose of Versailles, which has also just released theatrically in Japan. The song was written by Ayaka especially for the film, with the singer’s incredible vocals and sense of melody adding new color to the movie’s unique atmosphere. As a bonus for fans of the classic series, the cover image for the single is a scene from The Rose of Versailles, the animated film based on Riyoko Ikeda’s masterpiece manga series depicting the loves and loves of characters struggling to survive in Revolutionary France.

Anime distributor AnimEigo and parent company MediaOCD have announced that the home media Blu-ray release of Bubblegum Crisis: Perfect Collection will be arriving on February 11th.

A hurricane that started in Japan and hit America
Originally released in Japan starting in 1987, and an OVA (Original Video Animation) mega-hit among the early American anime scene, Bubblegum Crisis is the show that put AnimEigo on the map. Over the years the series, and its unique noir blend of mecha, cute girls, 80s J-pop, and cyberpunk dystopia, has inspired countless imitators. It stands as a seminal work in the world of Japanese science fiction and is a landmark part of anime history.
