Starring Mayu Watanabe of AKB48, and Sakura Miyawaki of HKT48, the latest in Japanese horror has arrived on Hulu Japan this weekend. Crow's Blood centers around an all-girl high school, where strange events begin happening after a mysterious transfer student (portrayed by Miyawaki) arrives. The series is directed by Ryo Nishimura (Death Note 2015), written by Yasushi Akimoto (creator of the AKB franchise), and produced by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw, 11/11/11, Repo!). Rather than legit Japanese reviews, I decided to look for some fan reactions. Some of the highlights include "holy shit", "not for the faint of heart", and my personal favorite, "makes last year's AKB48 Horror Nights look like goddamn Barney the Dinosaur". So... Positive reviews, then. Crow's Blood is available only on Hulu Japan, with international releases not yet confirmed. The trailer is below, in Japanese. Unfortunately no subtitles are available at this time, but it looks absolutely terrifying! -Justin |
