Platforms: Nintendo Switch, XBox, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC Are you a fan of '90s video games? Hell, are you a fan of '90s media in general? I sure hope so, because Prison City is here to pack in as much '90s awesomeness as physically possible in a single retro-style action platformer. Coming to us by way of Retroware and Programancer, it's out now on consoles and PC and we're going to be taking a look at it! Prison City definitely looks the part, but how well does it pull off accurately replicating a game from over two decades ago? Does it even stand out among the countless retro-inspired games that release almost daily? That's what we're here to answer, so without further ado, let's drop ourselves into New Detroit! Oh, and be sure to keep reading even if you're not a '90s fan, as there just might be something for you here anyway!

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC Super Crazy Rhythm Castle is a game that seems to have appeared out of nowhere. It's a rhythm game, but it has a strong focus on multiplayer and that's evident as soon as you load in for the first time. It also is brought to us by way of Konami, a developer who hasn't seemed all too interested in developing new IPs lately. This aside, Konami has a long history in the rhythm game field, and they were once a king within the genre thanks to the long-running BeMani series of games, not to mention Dance Dance Revolution. Is Super Crazy Rhythm Castle a return to form for Konami? How does it hold up to other rhythm games that have released recently? And just how well do those wacky minigame elements gel with the core gameplay? Well, we're going to hopefully answer all these questions and more, so let's start our journey to this Crazy Castle! Platforms: Nintendo Switch Colored Effects is an action platformer that also features several puzzle platformer elements. It's out now on the Nintendo Switch, and the game sees you take on the role of a nameless and colorless figure whose goal is to equip skills in the form of colors, and conquer the game's many levels and bosses. It's quite the challenging experience, but challenge can most definitely be a good thing if handled right. We're going to take a look at Colored Effects and see if this is going to be a colorful adventure you're going to want to undertake, or if you're better off grabbing some sketch paper and crayons. Platform: PC A-to-J Connections was lucky enough to receive a first look at The Devil Within: Satgat, a Souls-like 2.5D platformer with much of its emphasis centered on death. In this game you traverse through decaying buildings, power-up your stats, and fight a horde of seemingly indestructible enemies along the way. You must never allow the demons, or even death itself, to catch up with you. With other souls trapped in the same realm of existence, that would be a huge mistake. This game will test your limits, and you'll have to hone everything from your parry and dodge abilities to your combo attack skills. Little things can be annoying, but let’s get real here, you'll have fun. Let’s dive in and uncover my first impressions on The Devil Within: Satgat. Players: 1
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, XBox, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC I have lots of fond memories of playing .EXE games, reading early 2000s creepypastas on the internet, and playing (now retro) video games in-between everything. That combination of nostalgic memories is most definitely not unique to myself, and I'm sure that there's an entire generation that had similar experiences. Bem Feito is a game that takes all those seemingly incompatible elements and mixes them into a blender, even tossing in some vague echoes of Undertale along the way. It's out now on consoles and PC by way of QUByte and oiCabie, and we're going to take a look at it today. So join me in visiting our old friend Reginaldo, it's been a while as we haven't seen him since 1999... By Al Players: 1
Platforms: Nintendo Switch The hidden object genre is not really one I've played much, but that changes with Varenje: Don't Touch The Berries. This quirky little title features impressive art, and a story that has to be seen to be believed. It recently released on the Switch after debuting on Steam, and it joins many other similar titles on Nintendo hybrid console. Does Varenje have what it takes to stand out? Will it draw in players who typically wouldn't try out a title like this? Will I gain a new appreciation for hidden object games in general? Exactly WHAT happens if one touches the berries? We'll hopefully answer all those questions and more in this review! By Manuel Players: 1
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, XBox, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC Works based on the Cthulhu Mythos aren't exactly rare, but what is rare is when a game attempts to tackle all of Lovecraft's works within a single title. Enter Desolatium, a point-and-click adventure game that attempts to do just that and include references, and plot elements, to just about every notable Lovecraft story. Desolatium is out now on consoles and PC, and we're going to let you know if taking the fight directly to Cthulhu himself is something you're going to want to experience. We're just past the spooky month, but it's always the right time of year to play horror-themed games! By Al Players: 1
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, XBox, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC Survival Horror titles have made a pretty big comeback in recent years with the recent entries in the Resident Evil series, and there's a game that seeks to be a throwback to a time when they were all the rage in the mid-90s. Tormented Souls is a game that takes direct inspiration from early Resident Evil and Silent Hill games, as well as Alone In The Dark. It's out now for consoles and PC, and we're taking a look at it just a bit too late to be in time for the spooky season. It's never the wrong time to be scared and creeped out though, so read on to see if this love letter to a genre is a game worth picking up, or if you're better off playing Resident Evil 4 for the tenth time. |
