Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 You'd think that a game called Life of Slime would be a cozy slice-of-life sim or something similar, and while some of those elements are present, it's actually one of the strangest games I've played in recent memory. Coming soon to the Switch, PS4, and PS5, Life of Slime is a game that defies all genre norms and expectations. We're going to be taking a look at the Nintendo Switch version today, and explore exactly what I mean by that last statement. This is going to be an odd one, so let's dive right into it! Platforms: Nintendo Switch, XBox, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC Knowledge Keeper is a puzzle game that is developed and published by Sometimes You. It’s coming soon to all major platforms, and we're going to be taking a look at the Nintendo Switch version today. Puzzle games can be very hit or miss, but this small indie release has a lot going for it. Seeing as the puzzles aren't going to solve themselves, let's dive right in and get on with the review already! By Al Players: 1
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, XBox, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 Retro-inspired 2D action games aren't exactly a rarity these days, so the game we're going to be looking at today has a hard road ahead if it wants to stand out in an already crowded scene. Coming soon to consoles, following an earlier release on Steam, we have 7 Days Heroes. 7 Days Heroes features a team of four heroes who find themselves up against a horde of zombies. That setup isn't exactly the most unique, but let’s take a closer look at the Nintendo Switch version and see what exactly this game has to offer. We have just seven days to save the world, so we better jump straight into it! A Classic RPG Makes the Journey West: A Xuan-Yuan Sword: Mists Beyond The Mountains Review3/28/2024 By Manuel Players: 1
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PC The Xuan-Yuan Sword series is arguably one of the important RPG series of all time, while also being one of the most unknown. Created by Taiwanese developer SOFTSTAR Entertainment, this long-running series has seen about a dozen mainline and spin-off entries since its debut in 1990. Along with The Legend of Sword and Fairy series, it's on par with gaming giants like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. I've made it my mission to play as many titles in the series as I can, but this has proven to be difficult as few of them are available in English. Thankfully that's been changing in recent years, with the two most recent games in the franchise receiving Western releases. While older titles still remain just out of reach, we're going to be looking at one that's finally made the trip overseas. Xuan-Yuan Sword III: Mists Beyond The Mountains originally released on PC back in 1999, and saw a remake for mobile devices in 2017. That version was eventually ported back to PC, and it's now available in English thanks to publisher EastAsiaSoft. While it's available on both the PC and Nintendo Switch, we're going to be taking a look at the PC version today. Was the decades long wait worth it? What exactly makes this series so special? Well, we're going to be diving into it in the hopes of answering those very questions, and maybe lots more! By Manuel Players: 1-4 (Local)
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, XBox, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC When I first heard that Contra: Operation Galuga was releasing soon, I was a bit worried. Modern takes on the Contra series can be rather hit or miss, and few manage to capture the magic of the early games. Then I learned that it was being developed by WayForward, the same developer behind what is arguably the last great Contra game: Contra 4 on the Nintendo DS. I knew I had to play it when it came out, and here we are. Available now on just about every major platform, we're going to be taking a look at the Nintendo Switch version today. Will the game live up to the legacy of this legendary series? Or will it be another game that gets the formula completely wrong? Let's dive in and find out! By Manuel Players: 1
Platforms: Nintendo Switch (Also available on all major platforms.) Whenever I see a "_____ Simulator" game come up for review, I find that I'm both intrigued and worried. We've all seen these types of games before, and most of us wonder if they're any fun to play outside of doing so ironically. They always seem to be centered on the most mundane tasks, and often feel like quickly thrown-together cash grabs. I've personally played several that surprised me by how good they were, but I've also played just as many that weren't worth the time I spent on them. Enter Lawn Mowing Simulator. Lawn Mowing Simulator's title gives away its premise, and it recently launched on the Nintendo Switch, following a previous release on just about every other major platform. We're going to be taking a look at this version today, and see if it's worth playing, or if you're better off just going outside and mowing your lawn for real. We have a lot to cover, so let's get right into it! By Manuel Players: 1
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, XBox, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC Krimson is a tough-as-nails rhythm platformer that recently launched on all major platforms. Developed by CryingPsycho, and published by PM Studios, it features a heavy metal soundtrack that accompanies you on a nightmare-fueled trip straight to Hell. Does this odd premise make for a fun game? Is this the metal rhythm game you've been waiting all your life for? Are you better off playing Super Meat Boy while listening to some classic Nine Inch Nails? Well, we're going to take a look at the game today and hopefully answer those very questions! Platforms: Nintendo Switch, XBox, PC I can't help but find it strange that I looked at a raising sim on the Nintendo Switch recently (Lair Land Story by the way!), and pointed out that the genre is very under-represented on consoles in the West. Then The World According to Girl shows up for review as if to challenge that notion specifically. While I'm sure that's not the case at all, I have to point out that this game is a very unique take on the genre. Taken directly from its eShop page, the game is described as a "deck-building roguelike caring game". While part of me is intrigued as to how all those different genres will come together, I can't help but feel that it's going to make for a complicated mess. I guess we're going to find that out today, as we're going to be taking a look at the Nintendo Switch version here. (It's also available on the XBox and on Steam.) We have a lot to cover, so let's get right into it! By Al Players: 1
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, XBox, PlayStation 4, PC Though I know next to nothing about the Warhammer 40k franchise, I was intrigued when Warhammer 40,000: Dakka Squadron (Hereafter simply referred to as "Dakka Squadron") showed up for review. While I can't speak on its place in the greater Warhammer series, I do know that this aerial combat game focuses on Warhammer's unique take on Orks. We'll talk more about what that means later, but what's important is that this game is now available on the Nintendo Switch, PS4, and XBox, following an earlier PC release. Though it definitely looks like a lot of fun, how will it come off to a total Warhammer noob like me? There's only one way to find out! By JT Players: 1
Platforms: PC United Penguin Kingdom is a city builder centered on penguins and penguin-kind. Climate change is rearing its ugly head, and the king penguins are all in danger! Ensure your penguins don’t get sick or attacked as your settlement hopefully grows into a thriving metropolis. Explore, research, and trade in a game that allows a good amount of freedom within its borders. However, space is often limited, so it’s your job to utilize production and the space provided. Now, does that make the game comparable to others within the same genre? Let’s find out the good and bad of United Penguin Kingdom! |
