Tentenko is so prolific, we actually missed her most recent (at the time) release "Machi". While trying to catch up and get a review of "Machi" out, she went and released ANOTHER mini-album, "AEIOU". So I'm just gonna review this one. "Machi" is good too, if you're wondering.
There's a driving cyberpunk-inspired beat throughout "Inai Nainai", which is otherwise a murmured verse until the synth line that makes up what could be considered a 'chorus'. Tentenko's experimental production style lends itself well to her songwriting. I love the contrast on "Piece" between the bouncy synth and Tentenko's listless vocals. "aerial tower" is a weird little electronic dance piece, which sounds like a hit in some kind of underwater dance club. The mini-album ends with "Hachiware (TF)", where Tentenko's vocals aimlessly twist around a simple bassline. In lieu of a chorus, the verse becomes interspersed with glimmering, dreamy synths.
AEIOU Previews
By the time you read this review, I'm sure Tentenko is probably halfway through her next mini-album. She's an incredibly prolific producer. While her music tends to be rather hit-or-miss, I'm digging this latest release. It's a nice piece of chilled-out club atmosphere pop. Her sense of melody is the true centerpiece over the top of her 80s-inspired electronic beats. I'm loving Tentenko's post-BiS style. Will she join this new incarnation of BiS? Personally, I'd rather she keep her solo career going. If she produced a BiS song or two, though... Imagine the possibilities!
