Legendary musician Cornelius has announced a new album, Mellow Waves, which is to be his first since Sensuous in 2006. The album will be preceded by two singles, Anata ga Irunara and Itsuka / Dokoka. Mellow Waves will be released June 28th, 2017; Anata ga Irunara is out now (review coming soon, maybe?) and Itsuka/Dokoka will be out May 24th. These dates are all for Japanese releases, with international dates to be announced.
Cornelius will also be holding an album release party at Liquidroom on July 11th and 12th, for those of you in Japan. Mellow Waves and the preceding singles will all be released on Warner Music Japan - buy Anata ga Irunara HERE! Hear teasers for each single below (unfortunately, no MV for Anata ga Irunara has been released at the time of this writing). -Justin Post-hardcore/screamo group heaven in her arms released a new MV today, in anticipation of their upcoming album Hakuun. The song, titled Abyss of the moonbow, is a powerful 8-minute monster of a track which you can listen to below. Hakuun is set to be released on Daymare Recordings on March 22nd. You can pre-order the album from CD Japan here. -Justin When WagakkiBand addressed the audience from the stage at the legendary Nippon Budokan in January last year, singer Yuko Suzuhana made a request: She asked the audience to help carry the band to even bigger and better things.
13 months later, seeing WagakkiBand own the stage of Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium for the first of two sold-out shows on February 17 and 18, 2017 – a total of 15,000 glowstick-waving fans – it was clear her wish had come true. JRock band MAGIC OF LiFE have announced that they will be making their overseas live debut at Tekko 2017, a Japanese pop culture convention presented by the Pittsburgh Japanese Culture Society located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Avex pictures recently announced an export ban on CD's, Blu-Ray discs, and DVDs. This export ban is specifically towards Avex Pictures releases and does not affect the other brands under Avex. For those who are unaware Avex Pictures hold the rights for the popular anime "Yuri On Ice". Avex Pictures sent out a letter of regards to all the customers informing them of this decision. Below are statements from Avex Pictures as well as Amazon Japan on the situation.
Avex Pictures Statement: THE ORAL CIGARETTES had one of the best rock albums of last year with FIXION, a collection of fast and catchy straight-up rock music by some of the most skillful musicians around. Singles like A-E-U-I solidified the band's formula, and they're back this year with their third full-length album UNOFFICIAL. In my personal opinion, it may have been just a little bit too soon.
Go-qualia is an electronic post-rock project which originated on Bandcamp sometime in 2014. There's not much info available about it (them?) aside from a link to Virgin Babylon Records, one of my favorite labels. I went into this mini-album completely blind as a result.
Kakumei Shojo is an ambient artist who, according to their Bandcamp page, was extremely active starting 2016. Their first album of 2017 is Revolutionary Girl Exposition, and my first thought is that it's gorgeous. This is my first time hearing Kakumei Shojo, and to be quite honest I don't know anything about this artist aside from what little information exists on their Bandcamp, Facebook, and Twitter.
Aoki Yutaka's debut solo album didn't draw me in at first; I had never heard his name before, and nobody I knew was talking about this project. It was the Virgin Babylon Bandcamp page which initially caught my eye with that album art you see above, that sinister goat's head which just screams black metal. Knowing Virgin Babylon from some of the previous albums they put out, I had to give this thing a listen. I can definitely say I don't regret my decision.
PLASTICZOOMS are a goth post-punk band who I hadn't heard of until very recently, but who have been around for the better part of a decade now. Their particular brand of alt rock is drenched in reverb and hearkens back to the 80s in the vein of Western bands like The Jesus and Mary Chain, as well as more modern bands like The Horrors. Their neo-noir cyberpunk aesthetic also makes for some of the most stylish music videos I've seen in years. With this new album, the band takes their bleak music to a new level with a synthwave-influenced sound and cleaner production.
