Go-qualia is an electronic post-rock project which originated on Bandcamp sometime in 2014. There's not much info available about it (them?) aside from a link to Virgin Babylon Records, one of my favorite labels. I went into this mini-album completely blind as a result. This mini-album is a weird amalgamation of electronic noises, beats that sound both organic and mechanical, and soft waves of ambient sound. There's harsh clicks and snaps like on 虚, while tracks like Suica feature a warm gentle synth atmosphere. It gets less experimental and more ambient as the tracks go on, with the Boards of Canada influenced V and V (Dies iræ) closing things out, the latter being a reworking of the former with some chanted vocals thrown on top. There's not much to say here, but it's an interesting listen. This is less of a review and more of a "hey, check this thing out" piece. Check this thing out, it's a little weird but pretty atmospheric and sets a nice mood. -Justin |
