Mio Yamazaki has been around since as early as 2013, but it's just recently that their name has started coming up in different circles online. Let's back up a little. Mio Yamazaki is a band formed by the vocalist of the same name (presumably - we only know that she goes by the given name Mio). Their breakout single Noise was released only this year, as the opening theme to the fourth season of Jigoku Shoujo/Hell Girl. The band combines distorted alternative rock with electro-pop elements to great effect, reminiscent of underground heroes URBANGARDE. After a few years of singles and mini-albums, Mio Yamazaki released their debut full-length Anti-These last year on Epic Records. Packed with great tracks like Occultic69 and Seigi no Uta, Anti-These stands as a passionate letter of intent from a band who are just getting started. Their latest single Noise sees the group take a catchy approach to gothic rock, complete with plucked acoustic instrumentation on the verses and lush backing strings on the choruses. At the moment, it's pretty tough to find information on the group in the west. Their only promotional MV (for Noise) is blocked in the US (embedded above for those who can see it) and they only have a couple audio-only posts from their pre-major label days. You can check out their website here. Expect to see more on them here soon! -Justin |
