Reported via the official Oricon website early Wednesday morning, it had been announced that female rapper DAOKO and singer-songwriter Kenshi Yonezu will be performing the theme song for Iwai Shunji’s much-anticipated film, Fireworks, Should We See It from the Side or the Bottom? The song, entitled ‘Uchiage Hanabi’ (Fireworks), was written, composed and produced by Yonezu, with the two performing the song as a duet. A short preview can be found below. Both artists have acquired massive amounts of attention all across the globe. DAOKO is most likely be known for her work done with music producer TeddyLoid, with the song ‘ME!ME!ME!’ having accumulated millions of views on YouTube since going viral. Yonezu, meanwhile, has had a very successful solo career, even providing theme songs for animes March Comes in like a Lion and My Hero Academia. Opening in Japanese theaters on August 18th, the story is set over ‘summer vacation, in a certain seaside town.’ A group of students gather during the town’s annual festival, with a young girl named Nazuna soon facing her mother’s remarriage and a school transfer. The film is an animated version of Iwai’s 1993 TV drama of the same name, later winning Iwai an award for Rookie Director of the Year and coming to regard the story as his best work. Suzu Hirose, Mamoru Miyano, and Masaki Suda were some of the famous actors to provide voices for the animation. It was also revealed that DAOKO was the singer for the animation’s other trailer released earlier this year, performing her own cover of the original movie’s theme song ‘Forever Friends.’ The PV for DAOKO’s cover was also directed by Shunji Iwai himself. The CD with both aforementioned songs will be released on August 16th as DAOKO’s third single.
