It's been two years since Czecho no Republic released their bouncy dancefloor indie rock record 'Mantle', which is two years too long. With unforgettable singles like "Amazing Parade" and "No Way", 'Mantle' was the bubbly summer fun record we've always needed. And it wasn't even their first! 'DREAMS' is Czecho no Republic's fourth album, deep into a career full of some of the brightest dance rock ever released. The album opens up right where the band left off, as if they hadn't even been gone in the first place. Songs like "Dream Beach Sunset" and "Forever Dreaming" (recently featured in Dragon Ball Super) are the neon-soaked party anthems fans have come to expect. There's also the lovely "Electric Girl" and "Shiny Girl", two very rare occasions of the band's vocals being done by keyboardist Yagi Rui. DISCLAIMER: this video is currently unavailable in the US! Sorry about that! It's hard to say that Czecho no Republic has come a long way since their early days. They're as good as they've always been, still putting out the cheerful vacation pop they're best known for. While 'DREAMS' doesn't feature any surprises or major shifts for the band, it's a good reminder that they're around and still making fantastic songs. There are wonderfully catchy songs like "Gohho to John" and ultra-manic synthpop pieces like "Panic" that take a page of out POLYSICS' book. Overall, 'DREAMS' is another great album from a great band. It won't be converting any Czecho no Republic haters, but fans of the band should find nothing but a reminder of what makes this band so memorable. -Justin Czecho no Republic |
