In a surprise announcement during a concert event in Bangkok, Japanese idol FES☆TIVE have announced that they will have an overseas sister girl group based in Thailand. The announcement was made at FES☆TIVE’s The Circus Asia Tour live in Bangkok on June 2nd, which also featured Thai idol groups Love Letter, Siam☆Dream, and Junsui Cafe Latte as opening acts. According to FES☆TIVE’s agency Rize Productions, the group will be managed by Up-Dance Entertainment which was founded by FES☆TIVE’s head producer. Consequently, the choreography, composition and clothing for the new group will be largely handled by Japanese staff to achieve a “MADE IN JAPAN” feel. There will be an audition for girls aged 16 to 23, with details to be announced later on FES☆TIVE’s Facebook page. While ‘sister groups’ are certainly nothing new in the Japanese idol world (as several ‘sister groups’ to bigger idol groups currently exist), very few of them have been based overseas. This announcement appears to be a response to the growth of a large Japanese/Thai idol fanbase, resulting from the expansion of Thai idol groups like BNK48, Siam☆Dream, Sweat16, and many others. Indeed, sellout crowds of fans/otaku during live concerts have been witnessed at major events such as Japan Expo Thailand. -Daryl About FES☆TIVE: FES☆TIVE, formed in 2013, is a Japanese idol girl group based in Tokyo. The group’s name stands for “Festival from Japan”, and reflects its concept of revitalizing Japan by combining the words “festival”, “positive” and “active”. FES☆TIVE has frequently marketed itself overseas with visits to Thailand and throughout east and southeast Asia numerous times since its launch. |
