We recently got to attend Fan Expo Dallas, the DFW area's premiere pop culture convention! Held in downtown Dallas at the Kay Bailey convention center, it was a 3 day pop culture extravaganza. Loads of shopping, a huge artist alley and indie comics section, games, a kid section awaited attendees. Of course big stars and voice actors like Zach Levi, David Hayter, Tara Strong, Jim Lee, and even the cast of Back to the Future were around for panels and autographs! While there weren't any fan run panels (that we knew of), that didn't stop DFW from coming out in full force, and some in full cosplay. Plenty of cosplayers braved the heat of the weekend to dress their best, and there was even a cosplay contest. While not an anime con, being in the DFW area, it did see a huge presence by Funimation and anime merchandisers. Loads of people cosplayed their favorite anime characters, and the artist alley was full of anime fan art. Folks even lined up to take pics with a giant All Might Funko Pop. It's nice to see anime become part of American pop culture at large. FXD is just what DFW and the surrounding areas need: a con with the makings of San Diego Comic Con of their own. A concise yet full daily schedule and viewing rooms gave fans plenty of neat things to see and do, a huge dealers hall gave them plenty to buy, and all sorts of extra things (like a kid's only play area, gaming, and crafts) kept this con jam packed. I'm excited to see this event expand even more in the future, and maybe even little offshoot events throughout the year. Dallas is a good place, ripe for this kind of event, and we'd like to thank FXD for the chance to cover it! -Janette G and Emily G Check out our photo gallery below!
