Anime Expo 2017 left us at A-to-J with sweet memories and the hope of attending fro many years to come! This year, the Los Angeles-based convention dropped plenty of surprises on us. They once again upped their game by showcasing a brand new pre-show night, movie premieres, new guests, and more! Their attendance rate left everyone in shock as they brought in a whopping 107,658 attendees for the 2017 year. The pre-show night (Day 0) was held as a welcoming party to attendees who paid a little extra for the early entrance. Even though it was held on what is technically Day 0, it kicked off the con weekend by hosting events like programming, dances, panels, and much more! Their movie premieres also included the debut of the live action Tokyo Ghoul movie! Some of the other events that were included over the weekend was the return of their Neon District EDM dance party featuring guests DJs like TeddyLoid. (Who we interviewed! That interview can be found HERE) Overall, adding the thousands of volunteers who also helped put this convention together, it was an eventful and successful weekend adding on to Anime Expo’s amazing streak! One of our favorite highlights was Anime Expo’s much-loved Fashion Show! 2017’s show included famous Harajuku fashion brands such as Galaxxxy, Listen Flavor, and Baby Doll Tokyo. These brands have been photographed all around Harajuku and are important to Harajuku fashion itself. The fashion show was entertaining and a great representation for the many aesthetics and subgenres of J-Fashion. Check out a few pictures shot by Manuel (alavic_222) The cosplay throughout the convention weekend was by far some of the best we’ve seen! The attendees showcased everything from well know anime to even Disney characters! The biggest cosplay trend of the year was from My Hero Academia, a new and very popular anime within 2017. Please check out just some of the amazing cosplay photographed by our friend Ivan Aburto: Based in the heart of Downtown Los Angeles, Anime Expo continues to be one of the nation’s largest conventions, and the largest anime convention by far. Located at the Los Angeles Convention Center, the large area may soon be not large enough for their growing attendance rate! We are looking forward to visiting Anime Expo 2018 and cannot wait to see what new surprises they have to bring us!
