Acclaimed Japanese acts CIVILIAN and HARU NEMURI recently announced that they will reunite for a special co-headlining live performance titled “CIVILIAN × HARU NEMURI”. Details on this collaboration, and on the groups themselves, can be found below.
The “CIVILIAN × HARU NEMURI” live performance will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at TOKIO TOKYO in Shibuya. These artists last performed together in 2022 to a sold-out crowd, so there is plenty of reason to get excited for this show. Now, nearly three years later, they return to the same stage for a collaborative event that promises an unforgettable night of sound, energy, and emotion.

CIVILIAN, formerly known as Lyu:Lyu, is known for their work on Naruto Shippuden with the song “Never Change feat. Lyu:Lyu", and for Altair: A Record of Battles under their current name. Since going independent in 2022, the band has continued to push creative boundaries, exploring new sonic territory and captivating audiences with their evolution. HARU NEMURI, who also became independent earlier this year, has been rapidly gaining global attention for her genre-defying music and bold performances.

This highly anticipated event marks a rare and powerful meeting of two distinctive voices in Japan’s alternative music scene, delivering a one-night-only performance that fans won’t want to miss.

HARU NEMURI will be releasing her highly anticipated third full-length album titled, "ekkolaptómenos", scheduled for release on August 1, 2025. As she continues to expand her artistic boundaries, this latest release serves as another powerful statement of her uncompromising creativity and independent vision.

Additional information on both artists can be found below.

More on HARU NEMURI
HARU NEMURI has always made music for herself first, but now the world is listening—even if they don’t understand a word she sings, raps, and screams. Rooted in punk and riot grrrl ethos, her music is anthemic, frantic, and poetic, channeling fire as both destruction and renewal—like a phoenix reborn or the first blooms of spring. Drawing from influences like Fugazi, Björk, and Susumu Hirasawa, she fuses J-pop, rap, experimental, and hardcore into a fearless, genre-defying sound. Her critically acclaimed album SHUNKA RYOUGEN received an 8.0 rating from Pitchfork and was praised by The Fader and Paste Magazine as “a convincing balance of nihilism and hope.”

Her 2018 debut album Haru to Shura received global acclaim, ranking among the best on major U.S. music sites. During the pandemic, she performed at SXSW Online, Midem, and Live on KEXP. In 2022, she completed her first sold-out North American tour, appeared on Audiotree Live, and joined Pussy Riot’s SXSW set as a guest vocalist. Known for her mesmerizing performances, Haru commands the stage with untamed energy and surreal imagery, leaving audiences unable to look away. While going on another 30-city world tour, her Washington, D.C. show went viral when Fugazi’s Ian MacKaye attended, further cementing her reputation as a boundary-pushing force in modern music.

In 2023, she was selected for Spotify’s RADAR: Early Noise, performed at SUMMER SONIC, and released INSAINT, an all-band-recorded EP. She headlined tours across the U.K., Europe, and Thailand and was named to Forbes Japan's 30 Under 30.

In 2024, HARU NEMURI headlined tours in New Zealand, Australia, and the U.S. She also collaborated with New York duo Frost Children on the EP Soul Kiss and Thai artist Pyra on Don’t Make Love Vow. In 2025, she recently released naughty Al, exploring AI and femininity, continuing to push artistic and conceptual boundaries.

CIVILIAN Profile:
CIVILIAN is a Japanese rock band formed in 2008, originally known as Lyu:Lyu. The band consists of Hidekazu Koyama (Vocals, Guitar), Junichi Kato (Bass), and Kiyoyuki Arita (Drums). Known for their aggressive sound and deeply emotional lyrics, they gained early recognition with their 2010 mini-album 32:43, which earned them a spot in Oricon’s “Next Break Artists.”

In 2016, the band rebranded as CIVILIAN and had gone makor, releasing singles like “Bake no kawa” and “愛 / 憎” (Love / Hate). They’re also known for their contribution to anime, with “Never Change” (feat. Lyu:Lyu) being featured in Naruto Shippuden and “Kōdō” as the ending theme for Altair: A Record of Battles.

In 2022, CIVILIAN made the bold decision to go independent, continuing to push creative boundaries while evolving their sound. Their shift allowed them to explore new territories and connect more directly with their growing fanbase. In 2025, they’ll reunite with HARU NEMURI for a special live performance in Tokyo, marking another exciting chapter in their ongoing journey.
