BiSH aren't the kind of idols to take breaks. Sure, they only released their second album this year. Sure, they just lost founding member Hug Me. And sure, they've just been touring nonstop all year (now with new addition AYUNiD). None of that is about to slow BiSH down. They don't take breaks. On October 5th of this year, BiSH will release their third full-length album (and major label debut) "KiLLER BiSH". If that title and the photo above are anything to go by, this one's gonna be hardcore. And that's just the way I like my idols; punk as fuck. Listen to BiSH's latest single "DEADMAN" below, and get ready to be blown away by whatever they have coming next. -Justin That's AYUNiD, the latest member to join infamous punk idol unit BiSH. After the announcement that Hug Me would be leaving the group earlier this year, BiSH and their management WACK have been scrambling to audition a replacement ahead of their upcoming major label debut album.
The night Hug Me officially left rebel idol group BiSH, the remaining members also debuted their new look. Fitting in somewhere between "monster hospital" and "wouldn't want to meet them in a dark alley", the members of BiSH have taken to social media to flaunt their terrifying new look. Some highlights:
Personally, Hug Me was my favorite member, and it's sad to see her go. She added a lot of character to the group and had a fantastic singing voice to boot. I'm sure a lot of fans will also miss her porn magazine column. Hug Me has stated in the past that she felt useless in BiSH, and that she was considering leaving as far back as last year. We wish good luck to Hug Me in her future endeavors, and to her replacement who has MASSIVE shoes to fill. Hell, Hug Me even has a whole SONG named after her! -Justin BiSH perform "HUG ME" "Happy Friday the 13th" probably isn't a phrase you're used to. Apologies, then, for this month's Featured Idol Friday. Digging through the depths of the most intense and rebellious anti-idols out there, it was hard to decide who would get the honor of being this month's terrifying poster group for underground idols. You may remember that last month we had DEEP GIRL gracing our front page, which disqualifies them for this month of course. It's too bad, since they would have fit in nicely. Instead we made the decision to give a handful of groups the spotlight, groups who we found were horror-themed, creepy, or just plain unsettling. Kamen Joshi It's hard to mention idols on Friday the 13th without bringing up the masked idols Kamen Joshi. Performing a mix of cutesy idol pop and heavy metal, these idols wear hockey masks at all times. Their bright colors and cheery music is known for taking dark turns down the path of hardcore underground music. While they bear many similarities to mainstream groups like BABYMETAL, it's their aesthetic which sets them apart and gives them a place in this article. Yukueshirezutsurezure If their name alone isn't a horror story for our English-speaking audience, then maybe their debut MV will be. This group hangs heavily in the "unsettling" side of the spectrum, making sickeningly dark "yami-kawaii" music which gives you the chills even through the sweetly innocent vocals. When they break down in chaotic fury, it's one of the most surprising musical moments in recent memory. They were set to release their debut mini-album this week, but unfortunately had to postpone it due to losing a member. Instead, it's expected to be out at the end of the month. Zenbu Kimi no Sei Da. You can't mention Yukueshirezutsurezure without their sister-group Zenbu Kimi no Sei Da, and vice-versa. This denpa-influenced idol group takes seriously dark turns into some of the most uncomfortable topics imaginable. Their recent couple of videos deal with depression, self-harm, and suicide in various ways. The first is tasteful and emotional, the second is wild and in-your-face. Enjoy! Guso Drop We don't have a lot of information regarding this new idol group, but they're as dark and heavy as it gets. Aiming to be the most hardcore group around, they actively encourage stage-diving and crowd-lifting and mosh pits... All in an attempt to prove they're more hardcore than BiSH. I think they made their point quite clearly. Honorable Mentions These groups don't really fit the theme, but deserve a mention due to their connection to the dark side of idol music. Whether it be their music or their image, something about each of these groups breaks the mold of the common idol. (only includes currently active idols!)
-Justin BRAND-NEW BRAND-NEW IDOL SHIT. BiSH is back yet again with their major label debut, and it goes hard as hell. The rebel idols debuted their new song "DEADMAN" live on their recent tour, but the PV has finally been released and it's beautiful. The group is like a cyberpunk girl gang, smashing shit with their sledgehammers and medieval flails and whatever else while crazy retro lights flash all around. It all culminates in Momokan falling in a hole on the beach. WATCH IT. BiSH - DEADMAN MV The song is the most punk thing you're gonna hear all year. Even as a group known to open shows with a Stalin song, this STILL comes as a surprise, but a very welcome one. After the pummeling hardcore verse we get one of the catchiest choruses BiSH has ever released, and then... it ends! No word yet on if this is the short version (video is credited as "official") but this is the same length as the song they played live. While I do hope there's a longer version coming up, this length perfectly suits the days of classic hardcore punk where bands would play their entire discography twice just to fill up their time slots. I can't wait until BiSH has another album for us. This song is already killing me as it is, but a whole album of cyberpunk BiSH would probably give me a heart attack. The only question is, who's the sukeban if Chitti got demoted? Probably not Momokan. -Justin BiSH Is:
Cent Chihiro Chitti (Captain.....?) Aina the End Hug Me Momoko Gumi Company Lingling Hashiyasume Atsuko For More Information: Website: http://www.bish.tokyo/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/BiSHidol In January of this year, BiSH released their second album "FAKE METAL JACKET". I wasn't a part of A-To-J at the time, but I reviewed it on my own personal blog. Since A-To-J never released an official review of it, I decided to go back and do an updated review; kinda like a second opinion, where both opinions are my own. This is definitely fair. "FAKE METAL JACKET" starts off the same way BiSH's debut album did; with "Spark", "BiSH - Hoshi ga Matataku Yoru ni", and "MONSTERS". The 2016 versions of these three songs include the group's new members, and sound pretty much the same with some minor differences (which are barely noticeable to the casual listener). The first new song we get is "Primitive", an emotional rock ballad which has a vibe similar to the BiS classic "primal". One of my favorite songs is next; "beautiful sa" is so incredible, it's just unforgettable in my opinion. It's not that BiSH is doing anything particularly new here, it's just some really high-level songwriting. There's a re-recording of the 2015 single "OTNK", which sounds great, then we get "Migatte I need you". This is a little bit heavier than the preceding songs, and has an amazing chorus. I love hearing the way BiSH's voices compliment one another, it's just beautiful. "Departures" is next, an even harder rocking song. By this point, even a new listener should know that every singer in BiSH is impossibly talented. I can't believe there are so many perfect voices harmonizing together on this album, and this song is just more proof of that. "Want" is another pretty heavy one, though it's dialed back just a bit. The downstroked guitars sound pretty awesome, it's a great song. The last re-recorded song we get is "Saraba Kana" off the first album. In proper re-recorded BiSH song fashion, it sounds fine. It's the same song. The next song, though... I think I may have actually died. That's the only possible explanation for "All You Need Is Love", which is one of the most beautiful and powerful songs of all time. I love this song. I can't put into words how much I love this song. Just listen to it, if it's the last song you ever hear. It's a really pretty and downtempo love song, nice and calming, for the first half. After the halfway mark, right when you think the song is over, BiSH kicks into overdrive and just pummels through a powerful fucking masterpiece. Listen to "All You Need Is Love" before you even finish reading the review. The reason I say that is because the last two songs are great, but they shouldn't be following THAT. "DEAR..." is SUPER heavy with some awesome chanting, one of the most energetic songs on the whole album. "BUDOKAN ga Moshiku ha TAMANEGI" is the closer, and it's a nice ballad. It's pretty, emotional, and a nice ending to an amazing album. If "Brand-new idol SHiT" was a great album, "FAKE METAL JACKET" is an AMAZING album. I do disagree with the choice to include so many old songs on here, but I don't dislike it. From what I've heard so far, I think this may just end up being my number one album of 2016. I'm glad I did this second review, because the first time around I didn't think it was as good as BiSH's debut. I'm really in love with "FAKE METAL JACKET", though. In an effort to keep the legacy of BiS alive, manager Watanabe Junnosuke held auditions to replace the entire lineup. The group was announced in January of 2015, and the lineup was solidified a few months later. They were introduced as BiSH (Brand-new idol SHiT). BiSH was: Sen to Chihiro Chicchi, group captain (currently known as Cent Chihiro Chitti) Aina The End, a former R&B singer and member of PARALLEL Hug Me Momoko Gumi Company Yukako Love Deluxe Shortly after their first single, “Spark”, Yukako Love Deluxe left the group due to anxiety, but they went on without her. The debut album “Brand-new idol SHiT” was released shortly after to massive acclaim, blowing BiS’s Oricon chart records out of the water. BiSH - BiSH: Hoshi ga Matataku Yoru ni MV BiSH has become known for their over-the-top, often shocking music videos. From “BiSH: Hoshi ga Matataku Yoru ni” featuring scat and semen imagery, to “MONSTERS” where the group fights against the oppressive regime of a boot camp instructor (a callout against idol culture in general). The group is also known to be honest and open about their personal lives, holding nothing back in interviews. Hug Me writes a column in a porn magazine (starting with her VERY in-depth recollection of her first Brazilian wax) and Momoko has openly admitted to hating otaku, most idol fans, and even handshake events. Aina has gone on record about her history of being bullied in school, and even mentioned that she was homeless for a short time prior to auditioning for BiSH. It’s not just BiSH’s public image that differs from “ordinary” idol units; it’s also what happens behind-the-scenes. The members often write their own songs, and even do their own choreography. Their song lyrics aren’t usually that far off from what you would expect from idols (read: love songs) but they’ve been known to break the rules from time to time. A handful of their songs deal with the realities of life as an idol, including depression, discomfort, and anxiety. Some songs deal with loneliness or fear of getting stuck in the idol lifestyle without any future, or even sex. Their biggest single, “OTNK”, is about penises (though they try to hide it with the “official” lyrics being completely different to the actual lyrics.) According to Momoko, the lyrics are cute. BiSH - OTNK MV In 2015, BiSH picked up two new members: Lingling and Hashiyasume Atsuko. With their new 6-person lineup, they released their second full-length album “FAKE METAL JACKET”, and flew up the charts faster than ever. With the album came the announcement that they would soon be signing to avex trax, the same label which had signed BiS. Their major label debut is set to be released on May 4th, 2016. There’s a lot to say about BiSH, but the best way is to just jump right in. They’re perfect for fans of groups like Babymetal and Ladybaby, or just for an idol fan looking for something new. Their music varies from pop to metal, and even to jazz-rock, hardcore punk, thrash, and blues rock. There’s something for almost everybody. I recommend starting with one of their singles, like “OTNK” or “MONSTERS”. The deep album tracks can get a little weird for anyone who isn’t into obscure subgenres. I’m still holding out hope for the inevitable “BiSHKaidan” album which will surely be the best idol album of all time.
