Thursday December 15, 2016, the Japan Foundation of Los Angeles held a special time capsule event at the Japanese American National Museum featuring, you geussed it, Hello Kitty. Conceived in the mind of Sebastian Masuda, who has hosted similar events prior to today's, these "Time After Time" events never fail to draw in a varied crowd. While Sabastian Masuda did not attend this event, the Hello Kitty capsule he created was front and center. This might have disappointed some as the first time the capsule appeared at the JAMN the event included the chance for him to interact with fans and take photos. For today's event I got to speak with the director for JFLA and even got some pictures with him along with a small interview. Hideki Hara has been leading the way for JFLA in the brightest way possible and is responsible for many events like this one. He told us a little about what JFLA is and the important role it plays in attempting to close the gap between America and Japan, a goal that we strive for ourselves at A-to-J Connections. I applaud Mr. Hara greatly for his dedication and hardwork. Now onto the event itself. For myself, I got to write a note to my future self twenty years from now! That is right they will open this capsule in twenty years and everyone will get the change to read what the letters they've written to themselves. I took photos of myself right before I threw my note into the capsule. I say "threw" because this is how I had to get it inside considering I'm way too short to reach the opening otherwise. I also took photos with Mr. Hara and it turned out to be a wonderful event. Look forward to more reports on events like this from the JFLA in the future. -Hikaru For More Information: http://www.jflalc.org/ |
