Thunder In The East: A Crash Course On 80s Japanese Metal (Anime Los Angeles 2023) Panel Slides1/31/2023 This is our "Thunder In The East" panel from ALA 2023. This is one of our more popular panels and we've been hosting it since 2019. There are about seven different versions of this one and Warren and Manuel have switched off writing it. This version was written by Warren for the 2022 con returns and has pretty much kept going with the usual trims, additions, and changes we always do. We will probably do a big rewrite of this one when it returns to conventions so keep an eye out for that. Until there, check this one out! More Than City Pop: A Guide to Japanese Pop In The 80s (Anime Los Angeles 2023) Panel Slides1/31/2023 This is the second edition of the "More Than City Pop" panel. (Following its debut at Pacific Media Expo 2022.) It features slightly longer clips, which you can't see here, and maybe a few more inaccuracies than can be found it later versions. Writing this one was the worst as some conflicting information was found before con, but couldn't be fully researched in time to make changes. It is mostly here for posterity purposes, to check out the songs/groups that we covered here, and to prove that A-to-J indeed never does the same panel twice! Oh, and since it's not evident on the slide, here are the songs used in the opening montage:
