Well, another episode of Drink Talk Roll has come and gone granting our characters new powers and weapons and raising even more questions about what exactly they’re up against. Session RecapAfter escaping the riot at St. Jimmy’s that started when they freed the mermaid who was up for auction, the party made their way back to their rooms at the Fire Rose. On the way, they were met by multiple patrols from the nearby Dragon Monastery that seemed to be in the city for something other than the riot. The next morning, the party plus Neil and Clover, the children they had rescued in the previous episode, boarded the Emperor’s Breath and set off for the children’s home of Rashin. While on the ship, the party explored their new powers: Ulrich summoned his familiar for the first time. Amra devoted himself as a Harbinger of Favel. Jedah got his guns and Khorr... was Khorr. As Jedah was finding his guns (and a statue of a giant winged lizard) below deck, the Emperor’s Breath was attacked by a party of Dragon Monks. Former pirates Jedah and Amra started blasting immediately and Ulrich followed along. Only Khorr tried to talk it out but by then, it was too late for words. With their air powers, the monks gave the party a run for their money but the part was able to come back and send the last monk falling into the sea. While all of that was happening, below deck Clover was going into mysterious convulsions forcing Neil to drag her on to the main deck. After the battle ended, the party tried their best to tend to her but found that she didn’t have any normal problems. Instead, they were greeted with a purple eye symbol forming on her forehead as a strange voice emanated from her mouth saying, "Pitiful mortals, you once again dared to steal our power for yourselves and were struck down for your folly. It seems two have survived but know this: You are no more than ants before us. Our prison will be broken and there is nothing that can be done to stop it. WE! ARE! LEGION! and will rule this world." And that’s where the session ended. Worldbuilding Spotlight: FavelAs the divine equivalent to the arcane powered Eldritch Knight, Harbingers like Amra gain from the gods of the world. In his case, he has chosen Favel so let’s use this time to talk a little more about the god and what he represents.
Favel is the God of Wind and Travel. According the mythology of the world, he is one of the children of the Sun God Soel and the Moon Goddess Larg and a sibling to the other major elemental deities. He is commonly depicted as an adult male Aarakocra with bright green feathers. Domains commonly associated with him are Travel, Tempest and Trickery. Usual tenets of his followers include broadening one’s horizons, seeking one’s own destiny by their own hands and avoiding the dangers of extremism. As the patron of travelers, many nomadic people devote themselves to worshipping him and some spend their days travelling the lands helping others reach their destinations when they can. His devotees are also responsible for building out the roadways known as the Way of Gods which all lead to the Grand Temple of Favel between Ikana and Zimniya. Along the Way, there are also frequent temples that offer food and shelter for weary travelers. Finally, Favel is one of the few deities of Arretin, along with his parents, with children. He has four children that oversee the four winds: Hilaga (North), Lagan (East), Timog (South) and Aluran (West). With no wind to grant to his final child, Aliqua, he instead gave her the domain of battle and over time, she became the near equal of the God of War Darune and the Patroness of the Gaiun Empire, the remnants of which still use her eagle as their seal. I hope you all enjoyed that closer look into one aspect of Arretin’s mythology. I look forward to exploring more of the world with you in the coming episodes. -J.D. |
