Amigurumi San-X Crochet Patterns Review

Viz Media recently released something adorable and it is to die for! Amigurumi San-X Crochet Patterns features super cute crocheting projects that allows you to make Rilakkuma, Sentimental Circus, Kutusita Nyanko, Mamegoma, Sumikkogurashi, and Tarepanda. Crafty fans that are well versed with crocheting now has an opportunity to make these well-loved characters.

Amigurumi San-X Crochet Patterns’ cover features cute photos of the projects with a matte finish. The book is 64 pages long and from page 33 on are actual instructions while before that are detailed pictures of finished projects. These are the only pages that are in vivid colors while the rest are more monochrome. They are also printed only glossy paper while the others are thicker matte paper. Each project takes up around two pages of instructions and the last few pages are a glossary of terms and techniques that were used.
 
While this book does give clear instruction as well as visual, I would really only recommend this product if you are well versed in crocheting. The terms and instructions are very technical and you need to really know your base. I’ve been crocheting for years and have made several successful projects previously, but it was still slightly difficult for me to follow the instructions. Thankfully, not only do they have technical drawings but also bullet points for each row increase or decrease.
 
I decided to try one of the projects in the book and went with puppet Rilakkuma, as I wanted something a little more tangible to play with. I did decide to go with a different color palette than the traditional one, I wanted a more winter-esque Rilakkuma. Unfortunately, my project didn't turn out very aesthetically pleasing but it has its own character. 

In addition to crochet dolls, they also have an array of clothes and accessories that you can crochet for your Rilakkuma, Korilakkuma, and Koiirotori. Other projects include:

• Rio, Shappo and Mouton from Sentimental Circus
• Kutusita Nyanko, Shiro-chan, and Russie
• Sakuragoma and Shirogoma from Mamegoma

If you wanted to make all the projects in this book it would definitely keep you entertained for a good while.
 
Amigurumi San-X Crochet Patterns is retailed at $14.99 USD. This is definitely a standard price for most of Viz Media released products. However, for most casual crafters this might be a little on the pricey side. This book uses basic amigurumi or doll making techniques that can either be found in any crocheting book, or even online. This craft book is definitely for fans that love the mascot characters, it plays on their cuteness and popularity. So if you’re fan then I would definitely recommend Amigurumi San-X Crochet Patterns for your bookshelf!
