Eleven Arts continues its streak of bringing anime films, old and new, to US theaters with its latest film distribution, A Silent Voice (Koe no Katachi). Based on the manga by Yoshitoki Ōima and directed by Naoko Yamada (director of the K-On! and Tamako Market anime serieses and films), A Silent Voice follows the poignant and moving story of Shōya Ishida, a school bully, and Shōko Nishimiya, a young girl with a hearing disability. The film follows the pair from middle school to later life, depicting the struggles and challenges of adolescence alongside coming-of-age outside the norm.
I’m looking very forward to this, and am glad more and more anime movies are getting theatrical releases in the US. The movie releases in theaters October 20th, and advance tickets are on sale now. If you don’t see a nearby showing, don’t give up hope! Eleven Arts is announcing more theaters regularly, so be sure to check again! -Janette G |
