Recently, AKB48 announced the upcoming finale of their popular idol variety show, “AKBINGO!” The show featuring the many 48 Group members has been on-air weekly since its debut in 2008 on Nippon Television and is set to end this September.
In memoriam, we will be (satirically) counting down the most SHOCKING moments on this cancelled Japanese pop idol variety show! #3 may even be too LEWD for you to handle!! Recently, we reported on FES☆TIVE’s announcement of a sister girl group. While smaller ‘sister groups’ are a frequent occurrence in the Japanese idol world, FES☆TIVE’s sister group will have one unique and major aspect that sets it apart from others: it will be based overseas.
I’m a very critical person when it comes to documentaries about idol culture. Documentaries like Tokyo Idols or the average Vice exposé that market themselves on sensationalism. They often times use western viewpoints and outright racist agendas to paint Asia as nothing but a “creepy, perverted” part of the world. This is not okay nor acceptable.
That being said, there are only a select handful of documentaries that show idol culture in a neutral yet thought provoking manner without the racist, western undertones. Despite this, they still focus more on the fans. Out of that handful, only a few look into the humans behind what are known as “idols” Miyawaki Sakura (HKT48), Yabuki Nako (HKT48), and Honda Hitomi (AkB48) suspend their activities with their respective Japanese groups while promoting with new KPop group, IZ*ONE, for two years and six months. This comes according to a statement from their new label, Off the Record, released September 24th.
More details on AKB48 World Senbatsu General Election have been announced! This year it will be held on June 16th at Nagoya Dome. The election will determine the members who will participated in AKB48's 53rd single.
A while back fans of AKB48 were shocked and surprised when the announcement dropped that the idol group would be putting on of its members into a starring role in a Mexican telenovela titled "LIKE". Well, today we finally have a few more details about this collaboration!
More details have been released following the announcement that AV actress (adult video), and Ebisu Muscats member, Yua Mikami would be debuting in a Korean idol group this March.
Do you idols?
Do you like pro wrestling? Do you like idols wrestling? Then this AKB48 Group wrestling event is just what you’re looking for! For some, it’s hard to think of AKB48 without thinking of their iconic music video for “Heavy Rotation”, which at the time of this writing has 140 million views on YouTube alone. The video shows the members of the time wearing lingerie in a slumber party setting. There’s also the yearly music videos taken on beaches with the members in bikinis such as “Everyday Kachuusha” and “Ponytail to Shushu”. But now the rumor is that AKB48 will be limiting these types of outfits for their younger members, at least as far as gravure goes.
Janken Taikai 2017 in Nippon Gaishi Hall has concluded for this year. The concept behind this year’s rock-paper-scissors competition were members of 48G created subunits and the winning subunit would get a major debut.
